You're fine - they need to stop you.

Isn't it they need proof that it was you who was driving, or you can just say (Shaggy sty-lee) 'it wasnt me'?

AFAIK they only need to stop you if they don't have a photo -

quick question related to this topic here..

They Gardai - do they have a mobile camera van? If yes - it is a white transit with a high roof..

Would they consider parking it under a bridge on the N2?
Does anybody know if I'd have seen a flash - or some sign that I was being "shot"?

Getting slightly tense here as I was...shall we say...on the limit...of the car..

Cops have to prove to you the speed you were travelling, therefore if they don't have a camera they have to show you the speed on the speed camera before issuing a ticket... a ticket alone is not proof enough.

Incidentielly I don't think they need to prove the driver any more, if there's any disagreement about the driver the ticked automatically defaults to the registered owner.

Side question, yes they do, the same white transit van is parked at least once a month on the verge between templeogue and the spawell roundabout on the wat to M50 / Tallaght. You can see the camera sticking out of a clear gap in the darkened rear windows...

Well it's not actually sticking out through the window :D You can just (and usually too late) see it behind the window when you're passing...

they nearly always have a van parked on the N1 between the airport and Swords...just to the left of the breakers yard. The limit is 60 kmph! And i see a squad car parked a few hundred metres down the road beside the graveyard monuments place...they hide with a cam behind the wall...i know a couple of dozen people that were caught out on that road....always stay below 60 at all times! yee have been warned

Its a tricky one Maud, yep the guards do have a high van like that and they would park it in all the aforementioned places. As far as I know it's a portable Gatzo and does take pics through the glass so don't be surprised if... They always seem to be at 'safe' bits of road, ie, long straight, good visibility etc which seems pointless as there are probably never any accidents at these spots, could be wrong of course. I noticed lots of the fixed speed camera boxes have all been taken down recently, they must be sticking 'real' cameras up now. Stressful driving times ahead  Irony= too busy watching your speedo to see the accident ahead!

If I get the fine I'm fecking selling the car and moving house..
..the feck can try and sort that one out then :-) My names is spelt 4-5 different way on the paperwork anyways, and as far as I'm aware they cant touch my license. (non-irish)..

I really should just leave the house earlier in the mornings..

(Muttering curses at myself)

I hate to add insult to injury but you might not find out for 6 months + and then if they do put on points they dont back date them so they go on about a month after yet again, trust me I know and the cop told me that I wasn't getting points at the time I was stopped. But hopefully you'll be ok. (insert 'fingers crossed' smilie)

News Talk Radio Today mentioned this topic today:
An english license holder recieved a speeding fine in Ireland recently, they were put on the Irish database registered as having 2 points in Ireland (This obviously means feck all in England) but if the database accumulates 12 points while driving on Irish roads, the license holder is deemed to be driving illegally.
It remains to be seen how true this is and how it fares out but it appears the Gardai are pissed off with the foreign license holders getting away light with speeding

Lads there are two mobile gatso's ( that im aware of ) both Ford Transit High Cubes ( dunno why, most modern day cops are midgets :D ) a green version and the aforementioned whitey. Look out for the reflective red strip under the windows ( akin to that seen on trailors, caravans ) usually easier to see than the camera, although the rule of thumb here is if you can see him he can see you :x

Also Maud, we're in the same neck of the woods, keep an eye out for wine and blue unmarked subaru forresters operating out of Drogheda n Swords ( seen pullin lads on M1 M2 N3 ) they go like a rocket too so no running from em.

My rule is simple, keep the car filty especially the number plate! Anyone at the Tunnel meet will attest to this ( empty boxes of cigarettes and squashed cans of red bull are a must :D )

Its a sad day when you have to keep the automotive art dirty to disguise it. Mine actually turns more heads when its filthy, i'm at a loss. :?: I used to clean it all the time just to see if there were any new car park dents and scratches but now i've given up as I've lost count :!:

Spotted the van on the N2 again this morning.. Drove up to it REALLY slowly (below speed limit). It's a builder having a snooze!

I was so happy I punched the air and laughed out loud..

Still - has made me think though..I drove to work on the speed limit today..
added 15minutes to my Journey - good job I left 30minutes earlier than I normally would.
