Online checking in and ryanair

Anyone done this?
I wasn't sure before I booked flights to UK on what ID was required. Some said passport and others that a driving licience would do. Found an answer to this question on the FAQ's on the ryanair website. It says Irish/UK citizens travelling from/to Ireland/UK can travel with a driving licience. So I went ahead and booked the flights.
As we've no baggage with us because we'll be home the same day I went with the online check in to save time. The only problem is it asks for:
What type of ID being used?
Passport/ Identification Card Number?
In brackets under this option it says driving licience is not a valid form of ID. Anyone know what the story is with that?
Of course the helpdesk is closed and there is no way of contacting them via email. I think they do it on purpose so you'll have to ring the customer service charged at €1.75 a minute. And no doubt they'll probably leave you on hold for at least 5-10 mins before you get to speak to anyone
