My New Mod

Postby RussMan » Thu Jul 21, 2005 10:27 am

Well I decided it was time to take to a few subtle changes to the fto.
My first will be a mod that is pretty original as i havn't seen anyone on the forum who's been gutsy enough to try this.
I'm going to cut out the fto logo on the rear bumper with a dremel... then put some smoked polycarb or perspex on the inside of the bumper and some sort of neon behind this. I saw something similar on a 350z which looked classy so think i'll give it a go... Any thoughts folks?

Not sure TBH - May suit a heavily modded car like Adies but it wouldn't be the first mod I'd put on an FTO.

The best cosmetic mods for FTO's IMHO are the ones that tidy up the lines and modernise the appearance of the FTO e.g. Clear side repeaters or clear front indicators on your GPvR - remove badges and delock boot etc

Simple is very often better - I fitted the funky FTO logo in my "FTO" indent on the back bumper and it looks well.

Good idea - but I think it needs to go on a modded car as part of a theme rather than a stand-alone mod.

Sounds good Russman, could look well methinks!

I'd say why not do it as your first mod, its diving straight into the harder work but if you're on for it then cool. The one thing I would say is that you'll have to commit to it. Once you cut that hole it won't be easy to go back, if you decide after that you don't like it for example.

Same as anything else, all personal taste, if you like it then why not! NOI to mffto here, but personally I'm not sure about the stickers to put into the recess, especially if you debadge the rest of the back, then it'd stand out a bit too much for me. But thats just me, my taste in things has been questioned on more than one occasion! I guess I'm more into subtle bits and pieces.

Kev.

Hey Kevin, I'm well used to sticking with the jobs believe me. I've been modding my bikes for the last 4 years. Fully polishing frames, wheel lips, custom fenders all by hand so i'm up for it... i'd like to keep the fto logo on the back as a night thing if you get me. subtle during the day .. noticed at night!

Funky products do the clear side indicators, although a bit pricey at £48 stg + p&p

Apparently the MX5 repeaters are roughly the same size, and they're cheaper. You could swap the clear lenses onto the FTO holders, there's a how to somewhere, can't remember is it on here or ftooc.

Dunno about the front indicators.

Sounds like you're the man for the job!

Bought my last 2 cars new and didn't trust myself not to mess them up, so I'm new to modding with the FTO. You sound well seasoned! Looking fwd to seeing the result!

Karl has done this already and it only looks ok, it looks alright at night, if i were to mess around with the logo i'd just fill it in with one of those sticker things!

How is cutting out a hole in the bumper and filling it with neon more subtle than a funky FTO Logo?

I've already done the MX5 repeater mod - easy to do if you're handy with a stanley and some silicon.

CJ and Dazz can fill you in on the facelift clear front lens.

Its a novel idea, that said, I'm not sure how it would look, personally, I'd put it on the back burner and go for the subtle mods first.

Just to clarify what I was saying, as it seems I've been misunderstood...

The neon mod sounds like it would look well, and if you do that you want it to be noticed and what people see when they look at the back of your car. A feature.

The stickers on the other hand, especially on a debadged rear, are also going to grab your attention to the one small space. Personally I think the stickers aren't nice enough to take the attention off the rest of the rear.

Not saying the neon is more subtle  but for what its for it'd be far better than the stickers.

It all depends what you're after. Just to state it again, I don't mean any offense to anyone who has stickers there, everyone to their own, I'm only expressing my opinion as other people are!

Anyway, last word on that!

No offense taken Kev. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and own views - its what the forum is about. Just crossed wires with regard to the above IMO. I welcome all opinions on my own car - either positive or negative - its good to see the different views hence I'm not slow on giving my own opinions either.
