Hey mac,

I think it usually comes in 5L so you might be as well to have about that, no harm having some spare left over! No idea about Forte, got it from them last August but haven't looked since.

Drain bolt washer, I don't think you'd need to change it, I didn't on mine and its fine. I guess it depends on the condition but mine was perfect, I'd imagine yours would be too. Don't forget the oil filter, pretty standard, can get it from any motor factors.

Hi Macspratt

If you follow the above link you will get some usefull service info. The lads supplied me with all the info I needed for servicing my car. Managed to do everything myself including discs and brakes, which is impresive considering I never serviced any car before. If you need to do timing belt camskill do a very good deal at the moment (timing,fan,A/C belts and tensioner) for £75. I ordered one and got it fitted a lot cheaper than using main dealers.

Keep up the good work lads.

P.S hope above link works.Maybe CJ could direct you to the link if not.

Is that aircon or autobox you're talking about zacob? If its the latter, then its the same filter thats used in the Galant GLSI.

I disagree.

You might get away with it, but you may end up having to overtighten, the plug to achieve the required seal...not advised also if this does not achieve the correct seal then you'd have to start again, you'd be at a loss for your time, replacement oil, plus you'd have to get a replacement washer. For the sake of €0.60 from mitsi I would not take the risk.

I guess it depends on the condition but mine was perfect,

Kev, this is not possible! (unless it's a non standard washer) The OEM spec washer is deformable (crush washer) and gets compressed when you tightened the plug. This is not reversible as the washer does not 'spring' back into shape once the plug is loosened

was Kev talking about the washer or the bolt/plug?

Anyway if you get the oil filter from Camskill they throw in a washer with the filter. I used to just order the oil (dextron III), filter and forte gearbox treatment from camskill.

I couldn't say whether it is a standard one or not, but I put it back on and I don't have any oil leak whatsoever.

To be honest when I was doing the oil change I didn't think of the drain bolt washer beforehand or I would have got one, but I put the existing one back on and I've had no problems at all. Maybe its not a standard one, I don't know, metal with the centre curved up into the hole slightly. Didn't look very crushable to me but I didn't really look to see whether it was either.

Kev, FYI the original spec washer (viewed in cross section, if you were to cut it in half) is flat at the base with with a curved upper (semi circle). Basically it has a semicircular cross section. So the washer is essentially hollow. When you tighten the plug the washer gets crushed flat. Before and after pictures would be useful here.
The type sold in the motor factors are generally copper washers and look like normal 'common or gargen variety' washers.

CJ

It was the autobox filter. Was told by motor factors that it could not be got.!! I'll know better in future.
