Was going back on old threads in the suggestions, announcements, updates forum, just thought it was cool to see how everything came together. When you look back on all the posts and how it seemed to be a small group at the start yet it kept going and growing. Dont know if this is the right forum for this thread by the way, but I think its worth a look through for anyone who hasnt seen them threads and who would be interested. I only joined in August 2006 and the first thing that hit me was the helpfulness of the people on the site, and the decent replies to what were stupid questions as I didnt know much about the car. It really has come on a long way, but without the likes of CJ of course and all the old members who have been here since 2003, 2004, etc. it wouldnt be here. I think its great commitment and reading back on them posts just showed it all. Well done fellas (and lassies) for bringing it on and making it what it is today. Reading on them posts would make you really appreciate what the admin and mods (old and new mods, only from reading back I discovered that soc and MF were mods!) have done and the time they've put in. I also couldnt help wondering what happened some of the older members, people who used be regular, just sell up and move on? There was also a topic on hits per day, was reading at 140, would be interesting to see what it is now. Any idea on that CJ? Sorry this is such a long thread but I just think the effort of all involved should be highlighted as I'm sure a lot of people dont realise the time that was put it.

I'm one of the newer members, but I certainly second that. I may not have a lot of experience, but Ive seen a few other forums, and the basic questions (asked several times by all the newbies... just the way it always is with any forum  ) are not always dealt with nearly as patiently as they are here. I didn't know about the previous mods and such, but I sure as hell knew for a site as good as this doesn't fall together without a lot of care and attention.
And from the meet in Dublin/Wicklow, its clear the "old crew" (meant in the best possible way) have been friends a long time, but still made us newbies feel very welcome.
But yeah, just to let those who hold this show together, its is GREATLY appreciated. :D :smt038 :smt038 :smt038

Thanks for the positive comments guys, always welcome :)

While the ethos of the site hasn't changed all that much over the years, the people (by and large) have. Theres still a good smattering of the old crew about the place, the forum would be a different place without them.

Yeah I wholeheartedly agree. This site is really brilliant and well done to everyone who has kept it up and running over the years. If I was to get professional advice/work on some of the topics covered here I would be a lot worse off. Plus when I first bought my FTO people were saying I shouldn't buy a car like that because they'll cost a fortune to fix if they break etc because I have no mechanical expertise of any description. But since then I have used the info on the site to do a wealth of small jobs on my FTO that I was easily able to manage myself with the proper instructions and the car is a lot better for it. Otherwise I would have been paying Mechanics and Auto-Electricians to do the work.

The site is fantastic and I know that my FTO experience is being enjoyed ten fold because of the great advice and support from everyone on here.

Congratulations CJ on creating a brilliant site and thank you to everyone for your patience and kind replies.

Aaron.

Agreed, this site has helped me out a bunch of times. It would be very difficult for me to own a car as uncommon as the FTO without this sort of community. It's a fantastic resource!

Cheers CJ.

MJ, to answer your question, this site is getting about 600 individual visits per day on average - quite a jump!
