a gr is a de3a, i had the exact same problem when i was getting insurance in my old gr, they said we can only insure a de3a not a gr, i had to argue with them telling them its the same car, de3a is the 2 litre and de2a is a 1.8 as far as i know. think its the chassis code or model number. :?
...Me fail english?..Thats unpossible.....

As per Paul DE3A is the start of the chasis codes on all 2 litre models, DE2A is for all 1.8 models. I asked the same question last week as I was having trouble with quinn direct insuring me. As for the insurance dont insure it as a DE3A with quinn direct, it costs more (at least for me anyway). I put mine down as a DE3A and they wouldn't give me an online quote but I had no problem putting it down as a GPX MI-VEC got a quote of €684.
What Quinn are doing (from what I experienced) is classing a Manual as a GPX MI-VEC (it doesn't give the option of choosing manual/tiptronic when you choose GPX MI-VEC) and a tiptronic as a DE3A. The DE3A is listed as being a 1990cc model which I dont think there is, afaik they are all 1999cc.

Was that with quinn direct?
I had the opposite problem. They quoted me €875 for my renewal through the post and when I went online it gave me a quote of €684. When I questioned it they said we have your car down as a DE3A 1990cc (which is on the log book) and the lower quote was based on it being a GPX MI-VEC. I had to argue with them saying my car is a tiptronic GPX MI-VEC and that all 2litre FTO's are DE3A's. They agreed to let me have the lower quote in the end but reccommended I get on to the relevant authorities and have my car re-registered as a Tip GPX MI-VEC. It just goes to show they dont know what they are on about.
