Knock/Detonation Sensor

Postby Aidan » Wed Apr 12, 2006 1:12 am

I've finally found out why my gpx hasn't been able to rev beyond 6000 rpm. The ecu error code is telling me that the detonation sensor is dodgy.

Where would the best place to get a replacement? Has anybody had to replace one of these before and if so is it a big job?

Give Ricerocketuk (David) a shout, he's usually pretty good for parts.

Not sure why the detonation sensor would effect the revs, but to get at the sensor you have to remove the intake manifold. The sensor is inbetween the front and rear sections. I would test the sensor first as per owners manual.

If you are using tha blinking light to read the code are you reading the code correctly.

Has the alternator been replaced recently and have you checked the connections on it for corrosion and tightness

I have checked the connector for the detonation sensor and it seems ok. I've also checked the alternator connections and they also seem fine. I doubt that the alternator has been changed, I only have the car about 6 weeks so I couldn't be 100% sure but the car only has 23,000kms on it so I wouldn't see any reason why it would have been changed. Its a GPX alternator tho, as it has the 4 pin connector.
I used the ground pin 1 on the diacnostic connector trick to check the code and it is definatly flashing out the code 31.
The reason why its affecting the revs is because the ecu is in safe mode.

I've sent ricerocket an E-mail so hopefully he'll get back to me tomorrow. I called Tynans for the laugh and they quoted me €190 + vat  just for the sensor.
