rust bucket

Hi all
i got under the car today to fix one the exhaust brackets and i dont know how my car is still drivin.
the rust under it is everywhere i hit to see if it was only on the sufece and my hand whent through the chasie.
i then i pulled off a bit and the metel is like paper.
what will i do?

It sounds dangerous from what you've said, but it all depends on whether the area is structural or not, if they are not structuraal pocket sections. Having spent the last few days under my car, if feel somewhat qualfied to speek. Some areas look much worse that they are, and are only affected by surface rust.
But if you can put your finger through, chassis rails and or the floor, that is serious. We are hearing an increasing number of FTO with chassis gone beyond repair, especially the earlier stuff. I'd say prepare for the worst and get it looked at professionally.

il have to have a good look at it, it might not be as bad as i first thought i just freaked out at first.

I have a feeling that you're not alone in finding that your FTO has serious rust issues underneath.
I would say that the FTO is at an age where a large proportion of them have a good degree of chassis and underbody rust - especially on anything that came in from the UK (from constant salting of roads during winter).

If anyone is thinking of buying/changing their FTO - getting it up on a ramp is absolutely essential.

ye iv heard that rust is a big problem on the older FTOs.
it wont stop me from driving it.

the day has come to hack away at the rust and see whats left.
items of use drill with wire end,sander end.
face mask.

iv bubbles on the roof but i will leave them cos iv no way of patching them up after i cut out the rust.
