Custom Exhaust - Powerflow?

Postby Myfeckin FTO » Mon May 09, 2005 6:06 pm

Guys - Tried to contact Powerflow as per the number on the services page - doesn't seem to be available - I was able to ring them on this number last year - Are they still around?

Does anyone have any details of any other suppliers of custom exhausts in Ireland - North or South?

I'm trying to get hold of a twin exit - single either side.

dont go near power flow if ure looking for performance gains...i was going to get one done..they offer slight performance gain if any at all, best to get a proper system for your fto, would work out the same money,

Powerflow sounds nice tho that about it,

Just my two cents

id agree, thumbs down for powerflow, me brother got a full system done for his starlet turbo, years ago. due to smashing his full thrust exhaust system on speed bumps in crumlin  , car was seriously lowered though, so wot can u expect i guess :?
his system worked ok at first, but was noticably down on power from previous setup, then after a few months it sounds like a tractor, he brought it back several time, sold the car a while later after asking me to do repairs

The main reason I mention Powerflow is that I would like to have a twin exit system - I have an RSR on at the minute and would like to keep the centre section and split into the twin exit. Only a company like powerflow that makes custom exhausts could do this.

Performance is not going to differ due to a name on an exhaust - what matters when it comes to exhaust performance is the 1:bore of the exhaust 2: the number and extremity of bends in the pipe 3: Number and type of reasonators, baffles, Cat convertors etc. The highest performing FTO exhaust will be the exhaust with the correct amount of backpressure - no bends in the pipe (run under the car not following the original route), decatted and with as little reasonators and baffles as possible. A nice ceramic coated Manifold and better designed downpipes would also help significantly. But to say that powerflow exhausts have less performance than other exhausts would not be necessarily true - it will be as good as you design it to be. If you design it like a family saloons with a small bore, bends and resrictors in place its gonna cost you power - but if you design it to suit the car then you won't loose anything.

Durability may be more of an issue than performance dependant on the type of Stainless Steel used.

id agree with you there about whats important in exhaust design, when my brother submitted the said car to them ,they were told to copy existing system as close as possible,
however i noticed smaller thru pipes when i was repairing the powerflow system, personally i wud have checked all of this if it was my car, also slight misalignment between coupled parts, this would have caused loss of flow and excessive vibration etc,

I would imagine the fact it was a turbo would certainly not have helped - they can be quite subseptable to backpressure levels - a smaller than standard bore would have significantly reduced the power on a turbo engine. And too large a bore can have an adverse effect as well. I have a mate with a Turbo Glanza who has had terrible issues with his aftermarket exhaust. You really need to know what you're doing when changing from a standard spec exhaust on a turbo.
