Washing the car seat covers question. CJ???

Postby pergau » Thu Jul 01, 2004 11:26 am

I just saw a mention that CJ had washed his seat covers. I tried cleaning mine with a carpet cleaner recently and it did a great job but it couldn't get into all the corners so it looks almost worse than when I started. I think I'll try taking them off some fine day and give them a proper wash.

What do you use to wash the covers and will they shrink etc. Also does anyone have any ideas for fixing the foam at the sides where it has worn

I took the drivers seat cover off and it was a whoooore of a job, and took ages, I didn't take off the passenger side one.

One of the mai problems I had was that there are some metal rods (like wire hangers) threaded through material 'tunnels' in the seat covers that are used to pin the cover to the seat (to give it shape etc.) and most of these were fused to the material tunnel - so I couldn't get them out unless I ripped the tunnel, so that meant I couldn't put them in the washing machine cause they kept getitng cought in the rubber door seal - I washed it by hand and when I put it back on it wasn't much cleaner than the passanger side one. So unless they REALLY need to be takne off I wouldn't do it again.

Best of luck.

I might try it anyway but it sounds like I will have to resort to covering it up with a beady car seat cover!

Thanks

I just stuck 'em in the washing machine on a 30 degree wash and used a bit of washing powder. No shrinkage at all by the way.

Thanks CJ, now all I have to do is figure out how to program a washing machine.
