CV joint

Postby CJ » Wed Oct 12, 2005 1:46 pm

I reckon I've a near side CV joint on the way out, when I turn right, I get a near side knocking that you would expect with a worn CV joint. Any time I've had to replace a CV joint on previous cars, the boots have always been torn, but this isn't the case here.

I don't want to go out and buy one if I don't need it, is there any easy way of checking if the joint is shot without pulling the bejaysus out of the drive shaft?

Another thing, isn't there 2 CV joints on each side of the FTO, an inner and outer? (I don't have CAPS to hand).

Hi CJ
Yes there is an inner and outer joint, the most popular one to go is the outer of the two, although the fto joint is normally a long lasting one. If needed I can supply the cvjoint, however it could be cvj, or could be other suspension parts on the nearside as you unload the nearside turning offside...hope i`ve not confused you there
Normally cv joints are associatyed with clicking, knocking is suspension derived. Whatever you need i`ll be able to get, just get it checked first as you dont want to go spending good money after bad

Cheers RR, the clicking is not consistant, its more prominent when talking off from a cold start and when turning right only, I'll have it checked out and let you know. BTW, I've replaced all the front bushes and links not so long ago so I'd be surpised if its one of them (but you never know!)
