Hey, thats nothing special tbh, just brushed on 2 coats of Zinc primer......but first ive wire brush all the loose rust, acid the surface 2 times to eat up whatever wire brush didnt remove or i wasn't able to get to it, then different acid over it to seal it up, two primer coats, 2 finishing coats, job done for years :)

Now its painted black gloss, Stanley top coat that i found in tractor parts supply place, very durable!

What kind of acid did you use.. phosphoric? Bar for the welding (I can't), it looks like a job doable in the driveway.

Did you make any attempts to tackle the inner chassis rust?

Phosphoric react with rust and convert it, ive use it the second, other one eats rust to bare metal, i would have to check what is it but just google it if ya like.

This car isnt bad inner chassis rust wise, maybe theres some surface rust somewhere but nothing i would be worry about.....you need cut Your way trough panels and chassis legs to get that sorted if its ever a problem.

Everything has been done with the car supported one side only, enough room to do all that even welding :)

It was 5 speed tip V6 Mivec at the time, now water/alcohol injected 1.3 turbo with manual 1.6 Mivec gearbox conversion :)

Its a good car in my opinion....

Under-sealing continues:

Removed most of the suspension, dropped the petrol tank with filler neck, everything what was im my way is either out or will be so i can get the job done proper.

Image

Image

Driver side was just easy with no surprises....

Image

Image

Image

So everything went easy and i got one coat of primer on it no trouble:

Image

Image

Image

Image

Then i went over the passenger side thinking it will be as easy as....

Image

Bitta rust hidden under the factory joint sealant nothing too bad yet:

Image

Image

Image

Then ive found some rot hidden under the paint work :(

Image

Image

Image

Thanks God it should be easy sorted cutting the bad spots out and welding plates and there no drama inside the door seal too!

Nice work cleaning rust from the rear section ! Probably looks better than it did new :D.

I'll be making a thread of my own since a chassis leg recently fractured, so I either address it now or this frame is gonna be toast soon.

This is probably the most thorough FTO undersealing project I've encountered. Ever. Hats off to you for your commitment in prolonging the life of a cat that we see less of on the road as time goes by. I look forward to seeing the finished article.

Those bushings you replaced on the upper rear control arm (long dogbone), do you have part numbers for them? The outer on the driver's side makes alot of noise.

Thanks.

Not long after ive received the stickers clutch started to slip, few days later gearbox differential bearings gave up on the way home from work...

Image

Image

Image

So i decided to try gearbox with 4.0 final drive and longer gear ratio from 1.3 Colt as it mean to be better for turbo set up.....its fecking not!
Week or two later ive ripped it out again and replaced with another 1.6 Mivec gearbox :)

Image

Image

Doing gearbox replacement Crank shaft seal gearbox side got replaced:

Image

Image

Image

Image

Ive put new clutch kit on it:

Image

Image

Image

Normal starter replaced with planetary drive unit...

Image

More stickers arrived to complete the job :)
