What ever you do, don't penny-pinch on tyres (especially if you're prone to spirited driving).

Could'nt agree more, I got triangle tallon/ tallon triangle.. (christ knows which way around this goes) as part of a package deal with the wheels!

Never again! avoid these tyres at all costs, there just about passable in the dry but no grip/confidence in the wet at all!

Whats the wet grip like on the RE05Os? The RE040s fitted as standard to the RX-8 are questionable in the wet....

No comparison between RE040's and RE050's - the RE050's are miles better wet or dry. Had RE050's on the FTO and when I bought my last Zed I changed from RE040's to RE050's. Chalk and cheese IMO.

Don't know if these are available in the size your lookin for but, I had yokohama A539's on my last car and tought they were excellent . wear was an issue but this is a tradeoff your allways gonna get with sticky rubber! Had TOYO proxes TR1S before that would recommend theese also.

went for TOYO's in the end , si far so good , very grippy in the dry. Will see in the wet .

Ordered them from Camskill as it was the cheapest option .
Fitting was 30 quid (+balanced) for 2 tyres and it was BY FAR the cheapest option (tyres +delivery+balance+fitting =210 eur , 80 euro cheaper than the cheapest quote i got out of 4 tyre fitting garages !! )

after shopping around for tyres i had to go from one garage to another to get them fitted
my local garage where they initialy said they will fit even if i dont buy from them , when they saw that i purchased from the net they said they wouldnt fit them .went to Fast Fit - NO,Atlas just near southside motor factors , guys there said NO , then just around the corner there was a small garage they said 40 quid but .... :x

eventually i went to JFK tyres just near tuning factory.
very helpful crowd. charged me 30 quid and job was done professionally in 10 mins and they even said what good of a choice it was and asked me if i got them from camskill..

it's really unbelievable you cannot fit your own tyres at any tyre place

in the end ..happy days

It looks like the recession hasn't hit some people yet!!

Give them a couple of months and I bet they'll be more helpful.

Isn't is doubly unbelievable that you can buy tyres on the net from the UK AND have them shipped for cheaper than you can buy them here

Companies here should really cop on to themselves....

there used to be a link on Eiretyres that would give you a list of places that'll fit tyres they haven't supplied themselves..

as far as I remember DTAS was on the list..

I'm getting Vredestein Ultrac off Discount Tyres in Blanch. They are €125 including fitting. They don't carry them in stock but they will order them in for you. Just ask for Rob. Eiretyres are doing Vredestein Ultrac for €122 at the moment (doesn't include fitting).

I personally wouldn't touch Toyos again. Had a set on the FTO, amazing wet grip for a short while then it just went (grip) with loads of thread left. Lots of road noise and they are a 'slow' tyre.
Also had Federal SS595's and not great, cheap worth spending the extra money on something else!
Bought the RX7 and a new set of Toyos were on the back- the 'improved' version, 7k kms in, grip is crap in the wet and now spinning wheels in 2nd in dry!
Just put on some Pirelli P Zero Rosso's :D :D :D at 150 each all in, I'll keep you posted but I know they'll be better!

What model of Toyos Mark, T1-S or T1-R? I had a set of the latter on the VR-4 and I found them a great all rounder.

Tore one of my tyres today on a country pothole!!, and it was one of the good front ones:(, i was running 215/40/17 Dunlop sp sport fm901, can't really judge them as they were on the FTO when i got it, seem crap in the wet.

Am thinking about going for GOODYEAR F1 GSD3 EAGLE GOODYEAR F 1 GSD 3 - 215/40R17 83W TL, i take it these will fit and are half decent as there doesn't seem to be load of choice for my setup, and im a complete Novice when it comes to tyres, any help would be great!

The GSD3's are a very good tyre (even though they have since been superceded) and you have the correct size there though if I were you and I was replacing an entire set I'd be going for a slight increase in profile to 215/45 17 for reasons of ride comfort and looks (fills the arches better). The other markings just relate to load and speed rating (w is rated to 168mph) and TL just means tubeless.
