Accelerometer accuracy?

Postby colm_mcm » Sat Sep 06, 2008 8:57 pm

Am using a G Tech accelerometer to try and reduce my 1/4 mile times (thank god for private tracks!) and 0-60 times, and also experiment with tyre sizes before the big day.

I've been getting some pretty good times on the 0-60 with a full tank of petrol and stuff in the boot, and now am wondering if they're actually accurate. opinions on t'internet seem to say they're pretty accurate, I'm wondering if anyone else here has tried them and what did they think?

The unit measures 0-60 and 1/4 mile as well as G force, braking distances and other such handy figures.

G-Techs wouldn't be the most accurate things to be measuring 0-60 times and 1/4 miles. I've seen some wildly optimistic times claimed from guys on other forums that use these. You really can't beat proper timing gear - The Limerick 1/4 mile will be a good benchmark.

I'm using it as a means of reducing my times, seeing what works and what doesn't. from what I read about them, the unit has to be set up properly i.e level for it to give an accurate reading.

I wouldn't take any quar mile/ 0-60 claims made by drivers seriously for that reason.

It got the times for a Lexus LS430 and a Civic VTI pretty bang on already.

I'm sure it's accurate enough to tell you what works and what doesn't.. so if something shaves off time on a test run it'll prolly work on a real run aswell..
