Postby agent s » Wed Jun 22, 2005 4:57 pm

Where do fellow Dubliners get their precious FTO's serviced?

Paul is a great guy... an honest mechanic is hard to get, in my experience anyway.

An example..... the wifes renault Megane Coupè needed a part. I said to Paul that morning "You any idea how much it will cost me"...he says "Dunno, I have not ordered one in a while...but probably about 130 euro"...I said "Ah, that's no hassle great stuff." Went back that evening...Paul says "Sorry, I got it wrong, it was only 80 euro!"

Now, how many mechanics do you know would hear some silly punter like me say "130 is an acceptable price and I dont mind paying it" and still be honest and say it was way less?

Hes a good lad for a big service - It was worth bringing the car to Dublin for my first big service - where he changed all plugs (Denso's Iridiums) , 3belts and tensioner and front droplinks - all sorted within the day.
Its particularly important to have a guy that knows what hes doing when it comes to the cambelt change.

Actually - CJ we should have a sticky with recommendations for what servicing you need to do with an FTO once imported. Anyone who is now importing 95/96 FTO's for instance need to be aware that if the cambelt, PS and ALt belt and tensioners have not been changed then chances are they need to be - same goes for droplinks, bushes etc
