Definite realist here.
I'm not too up on my FTO's yet, but most cars out there dont make book figures as standard leaving the factory, not to talk about 10 years on.
The only way to see gains is to dyno test before and after the mod, on the same rolling road, on the same day, with the same weather conditions.
Even then, dont even dream of trusting or quoting any "at the flywheel" figures you're given. The best they can hope to give you, if they've bothered getting a decent dyno, and bothered to calibrate it correctly in the recent past, is a decent "at the wheel" figure, which is going to be WAY down on your book figure due to transmission and other losses.
Air filter mods alone will not give 10bhp on an already highly tuned NA engine. The fact of the matter is that an air filter, decat and remap to suit _might_ get you 6 or 7 bhp at peak power, but it should also bump the midrange power and torque figures up by at least a comparable amount which will greatly improve the cars driveability and speed in everyday use.
I've not had my clio on a dyno yet, but I know from renault owners forums that I'd be lucky if it has 150bhp left now from its book figure of 172ps(169.6bhp), and thats with my itg filter and exhaust mods.
Tuning companies use the peak power figure to sell their wares as its the easiest way to describe it. Too many tuning companies, and car remapping outfits, are all too happy to cash in on the Peak Power mentality that a lot of tuners seem to have. What good is 10bhp extra to you if is only there for the last 500rpm before the limiter? Tuning to improve the midrange power and torque figures without affecting the peak power adversely will make the biggest difference to a car.
Do any companies offer an individual throttle bodies setup for the fto V6?
