I just got off the phone there from phoning a number of insurers for quotes for the FTO. I'm 27 with a full license for 7 years and 8 years no claims ..no penalty points or convictions. I was in the IEI group scheme but the FTO isn't allowed in it, the broker that runs the sceme got me a quote of €1570 with Allianz so I just thought I'd ring around to see what else I could get. The following were the results:
1) Carole Nash - Wouldn't Quote FTO
2) Quinn Direct - Wouldn't Quote FTO (I told them I'd heard of other drivers with quotes from them but the girl on the phone claimed that for the past 2.5 years they haven't quoted fto's and that if I rang back and got another operator I'd be told the exact same)
3) AXA - Wouldn't Quote FTO
4) Hibernian - Wouldn't Quote FTO
5) O Rielly Cullen Campion - Couldn't quote me till monday
6) FBD - Wouldn't Quote FTO
7) Insure.ie via phone - got quote of €2050 which funnily enough was from hibernian who wouldn't quote on the FTO for me!
...well so much for rining around....

Did you try the AA? Thats who I'm with, well Royal & Sun Alliance though them, although I've been with them since before I switched.

Hi Paul,
Insuring your FTO can be an absolute nightmare.
I found that by not calling the main branch of a company I'd get hold of somebody who wasn't a phone slave - and I actually ended up getting insured with eagle star - who wouldn't even quote for an FTO from their main office.
It's tricky...

Why don't you affiliate yourself to a company with a group scheme like we did in the UK. Most of the members who used the scheme have got significant savings on their premiums
We're with SKY - you've just got to find a company that are willing to listen

That's where I got the Allianz quote that I have now.

Paul,
I would have similar criteria to yourself (but less NCB). I recently got a quote of ~€1500 from FBD. Had to ring twice though, to get a quote. Ring again. I know of at least one other forum member who has cover with them.

Try Britton Insurance in Donegal. Ask them to up the excess to 600 or so and this will reduce the quote a good bit too

i tried doing this before and got about 10 people's info, but we would need at least 20 names and info together before we could even approach an insurer who'd give us a decent discount!
