Fan/Aircon belt

Lately when I start my car and turn on the aircon I get a very loud screaching noise from the engine. If I turn off the aircon the noise stops, drive the car a couple of yards turn back on the aircon no noise (works fine). I think it must be the aircon/fan belt making the noise. I had all the belts replace during the summer so they should be fine.

Pat, one of the tensioners probably needs tightening up, I had the same problem recently after a belt change, Paul Nolan sorted it out in about 5 mins.

I had the same problem even after I replaced the belts and tensioners. I tried tightening it up but it just made it worse - Its not good to have the belt on too tight either. Its a winter problem for me - as soon as moisture gets on the aircon belt it starts to squeal - stops after a couple of miles when the belt dries.

Believe it or not - some talcum powder applied to the belt every few weeks seems to sort it out. And your engine bay smells lovely as well

Yeah, and i found if I put some moisturiser on my paint work it really sorts out those wrinkles and lines that come with old age. Its called Oil of Olay for FTO's. lol

Not actually joking on the talcum powder front (for once).
When your belt starts to squeal on start-up open the bonnet and tap a little talcum powder onto the running belt.
Try and avoid taking your fingers off by not touching the running belt - easy on the powder as well or you'll look like a snowman by the time you're through

yep i am the same as MYFTO as soon as winter comes car starts squeeling for the first couple of mins on start up, might give the talcum powder a go
