I would strongly recommend to anyone changing their timing belt changed to get the water pump changed at the same time. They are £33 from camskill and there shouldn't really be any additional labour charge for getting it fitted. They don't last forever and better safe than sorry!

All done finally. Got the car back from the garage today and it's working like a dream. So happy
A wire was broken under the dash board.
I'm delighted to be back on the road :D

Good news Aido - lots of questions - which wire, was is at the ECU? Any idea how it was diagnosed? Assume you didn't go down the road of a new engine?

Thanks guys. It was a wire that transmits data to the ECU so I assume it was a sensor wire. I'm not sure which one it was though. It was one at the center of the dash, where A/T ECU was. I'll try to find out.

I went out for a bit of a spin this afternoon. Felt so good! :D

Wow - How the hell did you find the broken wire ? was it obvious or did someone need to go through the painstaking process of checking many of the wires manually ?

I brought it to my mechanic. I don't really know much about car electrics. He just went around all the electrics checking it wire by wire and eventually found one that was broke.

I kinda had a feeling it was a broken wire or a short circuit.

It was just process of elimination.

Aido, I bought your FTO off Rob, this guy was a serious FTO enthusiast in the day!

We now have 4 generations of owners on the forum - Rob, myself, Adrian and Aido.

Good to see you on the forum Rob :smt006

Just Checking out the site the other day. Aido's car sounds like it goes well, but so it should with a new drivetrain! Aido, nice one on the conversion though, i had priced this up in the UK in 2001 but didn't go through with it. It was costing around €2k at the time this included ferries, B&B's etc. However, now having a spare even with only the head gaskets gone, I would get the engine checked to see if it would be worth doing some head work and the likes to get more power. At the time we reckoned that the engine would easily put out 250 bhp with some good work but the crank and bottom end of the engine need to be in good condition.

Jesus, it sounds like i'm talking myself into another stint!!

Rob.
