Hi Friends,

RTE are looking to interview someone who has decided that they will drive
without insurance due to its cost. The person will be treated as anonymous.

If you are interested, please send an e-mail to info@mijag.com with your
phone number.

Regards,
Mick Murphy.

Hmm, MIJAG still fighting the cause then. While I agree with many of their policies, the idea of getting someone to drive a car without insurance is plain stupid if you ask me...

Nah they don't want anyone to do it but what they want is that if someone is already doing it would the speak anonymously to RTE.

Sounds to me that RTE are trying to generate their own angle on it, instead of happening to meet someone who is driving without insurance because the situation has got sooo bad like I'm sure the interview will across like they've already decided on the 'headline' and are trying to find someone to fill it. Ok, I'm no journalist but that sounds pretty cheap reporting to me.

That said though, I'm all for highlighting the ridiculous cost of insurance we're all paying.

The one thing I'd like them to sort out, or put a cap on at least, is the whole compensation bovine excrement, thats completely out of control. If that was controlled and reduced its another excuse gone for insurance companies to charge high premiums (reduced cost). Then they have no grounds left against regulation of insurance that only allows them charge a maximum of X for situation A,B,C, they can all compete beneath that threshold all they want but not go above it.

Amazing what ranting can start flowing on the mention of the 'i' word...

Hmmmmm, this is something I feel pretty strongly about - outrageous premiums or no outrageous premiums, rip off or no rip off - there is no excuse for driving without insurance. Despite what many people seem to think these days diving is not a "right" - driving is a privilige that we all have to work for.

Insurance was sky high when I got my first car so I started in a 500 quid 1986 golf 1.3 on which I was paying 2000 pounds for TPFT only (and I was 24 at the time). I've worked hard to be able to afford my FTO on which I'm still paying €1500 TPFT and I'm 30!

People these days seem to thing that just because insurance is a rip off that it entitles them to put others at risk and fly around with no insurance. I know 1 person rear ended by someone with no insurance and who "disappeared" (as car wasn't registered) - cost her over 2000 pounds in damages. And a member of my family was t-boned by a muppet with no insurance - cost him 15000 pounds when he his car was written off!

And now we'll see RTE "sympathise" with some muppet who has no insurance - crazy :x

I agree totally with Shane on this one, Simply put if you cant afford insurance then you cant afford to drive. Where is the line drawn? Saving money on tyres, brakes?

Not too long ago I was paying €4.5K insurance for the privilage of driving which was a burden to say the least. But no way would i have considered driving without insurance.

I seen a horrible example of this one day while waiting in advance pitstop and a lad arrived in with a 86 Fiesta which was in a rough state to say the least, One tyre was completely flat and he had driven to advance with the car in this state, Then all he wanted was a tube fitted to this tyre?? The lads wouldnt fit a tube for him as the tyre was destroyed. Then when he conceeded to a new tyre the floor in the car caved in when jacked up.

The car was a total death trap and there was no sign of an insurance disc either, If you cant afford to run a car properly stay off the road..

To be fair to RTE, this is how investigative journalism works - if you want to do a piece about insurance dodgers and you don't know any personally, you contact someone who might - MIJAG would be a good place to start.

That said, I'm expecting a Prime Time special about the scourge of uninsured drivers like the scandal of people getting drunk at the weekend etc.
