Ashbourne Road, Saturday

Postby CJ » Mon Jan 24, 2005 3:20 pm

Spotted a steel silver heading towards Dublin on the N2 on Saturday morning @ 11am. I was on my way down to Merlin car auctions, very professional outfit but the amount of junk being auctioned off was unreal.

Nah, a mate is looking to pick up a second motor so we headed out on spec to check the place out.

Planning a trip up myself. Do you need to pay the bidding desposit to gain entry, or can you just buy the catalogue (to enter, but not bid)?
Aside from the usual junk which you would expect to see at any auction, were there many (any) genuine bargains?

Yea, pity they don't hold the Jap auctions at the weekend, as I'm stuck in work Mon - Fri. That and the fact that most of the garages specialising in Jap imports are a bit on the pricey side.

Was it a case of getting cought up in the 'excitement' of the auction thinking a bargain was in the offing (flood damage so what!)? Or was it a case of considering bidding on what was believed to be a genuine car and later finding out it was a submarine?
In any case I'll bring my waders with me just in case
Apologies to CJ for hijacking your post!

Its a fiver in and you get a copy of the catalogue, if you want to bid, you have to pay a €300 deposit. They send out an (e) mailshot every week, sign up @ http://www.merlincarauctions.ie/
