Dilemma....

Postby johnny » Fri Apr 13, 2007 8:50 am

Heres my problem....i have a 95 manual GPX but havent drove it in the last few months as my insurance renewal was 4 grand (different story...lets not go there). I currently drive my Lancer GSR...which only costs me 1400 to insure (insurance companies?! ). So heres my dilemma...I have 2 options...Sell the GPX now and wait a while til insurance is affordable and get another OR keep and maintain it until i can reasonably insure it... not sure whether to sell as i know il find it difficult to find another manual GPX in black (very picky bout my colours!) But im also worried about the car mechanically...i havent had any problem with it but it does have nearly 80k miles on the clock and if i kept it id be keeping it for years and years....how much would a full rebuild be and would it be like new???

Help me make my decision guys!!!!

One thing to mention straight away - if its not insured and its nicked or something happens it, you're on your own, so if you don't have somewhere secure to park it its something to think about.

Assuming the car has been well looked after, 80k miles isn't too bad. Once your oil is changed regularly, belts done at the appropriate times, and she's not driven the @rse off when cold, you shouldn't have a problem.

Dunno what a full rebuild would cost, but no harm to make a few enquiries if thats what you want to do. Unless its giving problems though there wouldn't be much benefit in doing it I reckon, you should have many more miles left in her before you need to look at doing a rebuild.

Johnny, whats your lead time in terms of using the car, when do you expect to be in a position to insure it? if you're talking a couple of months then garage or cover up the car, search the web for info on car storage methods, heres an example. If its going to be long term, then sell the car - its deprectiating in your driveway and serving no purpose. If you really want a black manual GPX again, you'll find one - eventually.

Sell the car -as you've been trying to do already, and get on with your life.

You're only real guide is to look at what the other FTOs are going for in the various sites & mags, if yours is more expensive it'll be less likely to be sold, etc.

One or two similar cars in the for sale forum too I think?

Cheers Kev. Yeah im definately going to get another FTO in a couple of years......model of choice will be a Version R  Black with red VR seats :)

I know it will be hard to find but im sure il pick one up in Japan eventually.

I have a 1.8 GSR and i love that car....only paying €1400 for insurance on that even though it has the same power output as the GPX  ..................it will do me for now.
