Brake pads..

Postby Muad_dib77 » Mon Feb 06, 2006 3:47 pm

Are the Front and Rear Brakepads different on the GPX?

Am thinking they ought to be the same but I'm just not sure.,

They're different alright, all FTO's use the same rear brake pads but the GPX has bigger front pads & discs. As far as I know even the GR/GS have different back pads to front though.

I have a set of rear EBCs (std) somewhere I probably won't be using, not sure how much they are at the moment but I would be very competitively priced...

Thanks :-) I have a set of rears as well..

I'm looking for a set of fronts.. Was really wondering if there's a differnce between the front and rear pads on the GPX..

U can check the prices of ebc pads here: http://tinyurl.com/9ozc8

Also I suppose in finding that link I've kinda answered my own question..as there are different part numbers for the front and rear GPX pads..

In short..yeah..Front & Rear pads a different on a GPX..

..now I just need to learn to keep my eyes open and read!

yip - The front pads on a GPX are significantly larger than the rear pads - its the same across the board for all cars - the front wheels do the vast amount of the braking - I'd say its somewhere in the region of 80/20 in the case of a FWD car like the FTO.

If your getting front pads on the standard disks may I recommend the EBC Green Stuff V4. Good pad even from cold - a little dusty but it is a performance pad.

I agree with MFFTO, I just got a set of greenstuff pads and they are very good.

Just wanted to make absolutely sure I didn't get this wrong..

http://www.ebcbrakesdirect.com/car/part ... GPX+GP+GPR)+(92-)#

Rear
Green stuff Pn = PD2986
Ordinary black pads Pn= PD986

Front:
Green stuff Pn = PD2954
Ordinary blak pads Pn = PD954

There's a slight "maybe" about the standard rear pad... it seems PD987 will also fit.. a little confused...

I'm not sure tbh, talk to whoever you're ordering from, they should be able to put you right.

Don't know whether anyone here has had the same experience but I wouldn't go for EBC Green Stuff again after having a set on for about a year. They are quite a hard performance pad, very dusty, but the main issue was with the hard feel off them when braking with my Black Diamond grooved and drilled disks. I switched to Pagid Fast Road and they are way way smoother, less noisy and stop me just as well. I wouldn't go back to the Green Stuffs - still have them in the garage in fact but won't be re-applying.

If I had drilled and grooved disks I would also probably go with something like Mintex/Pagid or Red Stuff but I find the Greenstuff very good on standard disks - but they are dusty (don't know how EBC can describe them as a low dust pad). I guess its horses for courses really!

Kace, you were probably using V3 Greenstuff, the V4s are substantially better in terms of braking ability and are slightly less dusty.

In my case, I changed from V3s to Pagids on x-drilled/grooved disks, better braking but about 5 times as dusty as the EBCs.
