Am I the only mad one..?

Postby gfalls » Tue Jun 09, 2009 3:45 pm

Just finished removing the door mirrors. Why..? So I could clean underneath them. There was a line of old polish that I couldn't quite get at, so off they came..!

Am I the only idiot to to do this...

I admire your dedication gfalls :ll

If it makes you feel any better, I've cleaned the cap on the brake fluid resevoir with a toothbrush in the past. I've also used touch up paint on the underside of the bumper i.e. the section thats hidden from view!

Any more OCD car cleaning types out there?

I spent two days cleaning the car for the last Slickfx meet in Limerick.
I went as far as polishing the underside of the back box, after all that, it rained

When I wash the car I always clean around the boot seal and door seals, sills etc. And like bernard I would clean the underside of the back box, never went as far to polish it mind. But when you spend all that money on a stainless exhaust you wanna show it off.

I was thinking of ripping the seats out today. There's some strange fluffy gunge I can't reach with the pointy bit on the hoover.. :smt047

That reminds me, I was hoovering the GX yesterday evening and was irked to note that I couldn't get the hoover in between the handbrake and the center console to get at accumulated dirt and fluff, then I came across this!

Ain't that the truth, 3/4" overflow pipe and a poly-adaptor simply wouldn't fit the bill (although a heat gun could be used to shape a thin section at the end :smt115 ). Its not often that the pride of Balbriggan has let me down....

You could add to your OCD cleaning habbits and take the seats out. That would give you access that bit between the handbrake/center console. And as an added bonus you'd also get to clean under the seat unobstructed. :smt002

Afraid not Karl, you need to take the centre console out to get access to this particular crevice (or just buy a Flexivac instead).

like bernard i polish under my backbox! but i always do it!!! stops tar sticking!!!!

i have taken the black plastic guard from around the windscreen/wipers off because i wanted to clean under there!! if you havent done it before be prepared for some nasty looking gunk!

I regularly polish my engine bay, blacken all the plastics under the bonnet and the likes.

im not the worst really. but i cant wait to get my front seats out so i can shampoo my carpets!

I use compressed air to blow out dust and dirt from those hard to reach places in the interior. more time saving than OCD though.

Dust and dirt is one thing but pet hair is another!
Even the vacuum cleaner has trouble shifting it.

I suggest a full change of clothes between dog and FTO interaction - one form of OCD to satisfy another!

I did the exact same to my GR when I bought it... more so because the dirty ******* that owned the car before me made a right mess of it. I don't even know what half the stuff was from food to money and all sorts. I'm glad I got it all out then though and cleaned up.

He also seems to have spilled the polish around the car rather than wipe it on... stuck in every nook and cranny on the body. Dammed if I've got the patience to clean it out though lol

Flexible Enough for Those Hard-To-Reach Areas!
Long and slim to fit tight, deep spaces.
Bends in all directions.
