I haven't see it before.. Do you check the UK forum as well - they ususally have car braking down left right and center.. (cause there are more members..)

http://www.ftooc.org

If the problem is just due to coil packs it shouldn't be too difficult to find a replacement set.

I'd try contacting:

Rice:
http://www.ricerocketuk.co.uk/ (0044 7831 147200)
Camskill:
http://www.camskill.co.uk/ (0044-1946-518201)

Or indeed Rory -SteelRoe or local superbreaker
086 6029362

Check this link for more suppliers..
http://www.fto-ireland.com/parts.html

Oh and there's always a somewhat random by steady supply of parts to be found on eBay - I did see coilpacks there not so long ago..

Edreale, does if happen straightaway, under light / hard drivign condtions etc. Is there any noticable drop in performamce?

Its quite possible that the cat is overheating, it could be blocked up. If theres problems with one of the coil packs and unburnt fuel is being dumped into the exhuats then this would also cause the CAT to overheat, do you get any backfiring?

The easiest way to isolate the problem is to undertake a diagnostic:

yeah it has started to happen straight away, its not driveable anymore.my mechanic reckons the cat is working perfectly.he reckons the cat is overheating due to the unburnt fuel. we"ve tried the diagnostics check but this dosent sem to be giving up any problem codes. do ye know of anyone in the limerick area who would have the proper diagnostic gear.this is the first fto the mechanic has worked on and i dont think his 100& certain its the coil packs. actually i dont think his 100& certain about anything.

I am experiencing this problem also. In my case the performance is awful though. Timing belt went during the summer - replaced radiator, engine values, water pump, throttle body housing, air flow meter. But car still not running properly, the mechanic seemed certain that it wasn't the exhaust, but at this stage (2,500 euro later!!!) I think it is the only thing it can be. Can anyone recommed anywhere to get the exhaust checked out, the usual places - Fast fit etc... don't stock FTO exhausts. Ideally I'd like to get it checked out first to make sure there is a blockage in it before I go to the expense of fitting a new one. Has anyone on here replaced their exhaust recently? If so, how much did it cost?

For a full exhaust system - downpipes and all - You'll be looking at approx 800-1000e

However I've seen full systems sell for 4-600 without the downpipes.

If you're replacing the lot make sure you get something you like :-)

My mechanic works on a number of FTO's - based in Limerick - he's a main dealer mechanic but works on my FTO at his home place in his spare time - Joe - 087 978 6243 - may be able to help.

have eventually got hold of coil packs put this has not solved the problem there is still amiss in the engine. we"ve cleared all the diagnostic codes and ia m just wandering if the nuetral light flashing mean there is still codes on it as the engine light is flashing continuosly mean ing theres no codes on that.when i drove it yesterday the neutral light started flashing and it was stuck in third gear and when i checked the diagnostics the only light flashing was the neutral light.

mate, i dont know what is wrong with your car but it will work out a lot cheaper if you take the advise of the mods and take your car to someone that is more familiar wth them. im sure your mechanic will understand :)

might also be worth u changing your gearbox oil and doing an ecu reset aswell.

If the "N" light is flashing and you are stuck in third then either your gearbox is overheating, if it flashes at 2Hz, or you have a sensor problem, if it flashes at 1Hz. Have a look on www.ftooc.org at the Grease Monkey section on the forum for gearbox diagnosis codes.

To check your zorst just crack it open before the cat and try it for a short run. It will be loud but if it runs better you may have a blocked cat.

HTH

Arashi.

PS, probably not the case but if youre G/box has a fault it may be putting ectra strain on the engine and causing the heat.
