how has the frost affected your car

Postby kona » Sun Dec 26, 2010 2:47 pm

went to drive the FTO on thursday,it would not go in a straight line,ABS light was on and the handbrake felt really loose.
just about got it back into the drive with plenty of cleaning of the driveway as all i was getting was wheelspin and the car just wanted to turn right.
ran a diagnostic on it and the ABS gave me error code 13,looked it up"air intake temperature sensor" :?: ,this didnt make me happy so searched a bit more through the forum here and found it could also mean "Open circuit in rear right wheel speed sensor"
this made a lot more sense,,

thaw came today and i reversed the car out the drive and after i applied the brakes, the ABS light went out.
handbrake feels good and tight again.
driving as normal again.
i have concluded the the rear right brake was frozen.
BTW i only drive the FTO at weekends.

i really missed the sound of MIVEC

You're lucky you got away with it.
I had to replace the handbrake cables last year, I made the mistake of leaving the handbrake on in the cold weather and they stretched.

Drove mine across the city every day during the freeze and routinely had to clear 4-6 inches of snow off it before taking off. Never faltered from starting first time every time to handling all sorts of terrible conditions. Was pretty satisfied with the car's handling of it all really.

Non FTO but one of the tyres in the BM completely deflated during the cold weather (no puncture), I reckon the alloy contracted and allowed air out at the seams.

Use a high concentration of screen wash in the washer bottle (that said, any water sprayed onto the windscreen at those sort of temperatures is going to freeze pretty quickly).

Since the end of the frost period, my aerial Woun't go down all the way 9 time out of 10. Its only protruding about and inch or 2.
While this post is here. Any ideas how to fix it, or is the motor on it's way out?

I noticed a ''wet smell'' for a couple of days after clearing the snoww of the car , now gone
And also my blinds from the sunroof slide harder now i suppose from condensation .. must investigate

I've even added a dash of "anti freeze" the type you'd use in coolant.. doesnt smear..

My battery is knackered. If the car is left for even a few days without use it won't start. Must get a new battery
