what gauges to choose from??

Postby paul2508 » Sun Apr 25, 2010 11:15 pm

hi peeps,
have a quick question,as mentioned before in recent thread im installing two more gauges in my fto.
found this site ,although i must say i have never seen so much effort put in to a car performance website, lol!! like something out of star trek  you'll see what i mean.
http://gauge.spacegear.com.tw/

obviously vaccum/boost gauge but i dunno which other gauge to put in.which one would be more appropiate, loads to choose from, oil temp, oil pressure, afr, water temp????? etc.
just would love to hear your opinions

p.s i thought a boost gauge was for turbo cars, so maybe vaccum gauge preferred??

thanks

Paul.

In an n/a car, oil and water temp gauges are more than sufficient IMO. If you must fill up the interior with gauges then oil pressure and vacuum gauges would be worth considering.

Think about the reasons why you want the gauges in the first place before shelling out (i.e. functionality or show). The stock FTO water temp gauge is pretty useless and will only move when theres a problem (i.e. burst hose, water pump issue). An oil temp gauge is useful to have in that you don't want to be putting the foot down before the oil is up to correct operating temperature.

Here's my first attempt at fitting the Ralliart dialsin 2007, doesn't scream "aftermarket" too much.
Tom did a similar thing in Shane's car.

thanks for the replies colm and cj.
i was leaning towards oil temp. what about oil pressure? useful? i suppose you do have to take into consideration that it is a n/a car and not turbocharged etc.

was looking on the ftooc site and there is a great sticky on how to install them too. is there any on here done by irish members.

p.s really like the look of the gauges colm, look sweet.

thanks again.
