History

I've owned this car for the past 6 years, I purchased it from an FTO enthusaist back in 2002. Some of you may have met the previous owner (Rob), he was fanatical about FTOs and looked after this car extremely well. I've carried this tradition on over the years, not a penny has been spared to ensure the car has been running / looking its best at all times.

In the past 6 years, I've done 52,000 kms i.e. less than 9000 kms per year. I've major service history going back to 58,000kms. In terms of general servicing (oil, filters, ATF, brakes, droplinks, ARB bushes etc), I've attended to this myself during the term of ownership. I've changed the engine oil and filter every 7k kms, the ATF and filter has been changed every 10k kms on average.

Any time I've required significant mechanical work undertaken, the car has always been left out to Paul Nolan in Artane. The most recent visit during the first week of February entailed the following:

Cam seals replaced (big job and not cheap)
Cam belt replaced
Tappets adjusted
Engine oil \ filter change
ATF Gearbox oil \ filter change
Full mechanical check

Paul ran the car himself for a day to ensure the cam seal replacement had taken properly, he commented that my GPX was one of the best FTOs he had come across both in terms of mechanical health and overall condition. If you're interested in the car and want a reference, Paul (086 2649884) is more than happy to back up his comments if required.

Heres the full spec:

The Car

1994 Mitsubishi FTO GPX Tiptronic, standard GPX spec, steel silver, 170k kms (105k miles), NCT 12/09. Tax, 04/08

Engine

2.0L 6A12 MIVEC, ITG induction kit, Denso Iridium long-life spark plugs (installed 155k kms). Full catback Mongoose twin exit exhaust with cat bypass pipe. Engine is running perfectly and never misses a beat.

Milestones: Cambelt change 131k kms / 170k kms, ancillary belt change 131k kms / 155k kms, fuel filter, 155k kms, stepper model replaced 155k kms, coolant change and rocker cover gasket replaced 141k kms. Engine oil (Castrol GTX Magnetec 10W40) and filter changed every 7k kms.

Electrical

Starter model fully rebuilt @ 170k kms (Jan '08 )
Alternator rectifier pack replaced approx 3 years ago.
New high load battery installed Nov '08.

Transmission

4-speed tiptronic box, shifts very smoothly in either tiptronic mode or Drive. ATF and filter changed at least every 10k kms. Gearbox input, output and speed sensors replaced in May 2006.

Suspension

Suspension lowered on Apex springs.

Complete suspension refit in November 2004, items replaced include:

All 4 dampers/shocks (KYB)
Front bottom arm rear bush (extra castor)
Front ARB bushes
Rear ARB bushes
Rear outer bottom arm bushes
Rear inner bottom arm bushes
Rear camber bolts
Rear outer lower arm bolts

More info here: http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/phpBB2 ... php?t=1489

Front (142k kms) and rear (130k kms) droplinks changed.

Front and rear strut braces.

You'll find it very difficult to find another FTO to match this car in the handling stakes, the suspension setup is perfect for fast road action and cornering.

Brakes

Standard GPX front and rear disks. The car originally had Black Diamond fron disks installed but I removed them a few years ago due to wear in favour a new set of Mitsi OEM disks.

Pads Front: EBC Greenstuff
Rear pads: standard Mitsi pads

Brake fluid flush and change (DOT4) 136k kms
Calipers painted silver

Wheels and Tyres

17" AEZ Icon wheels (I've 2 spare AEZ wheels - included in the sale), Vredestein Ultrac (215/45/17) tyres. The Ultracs are an excellent tyre and equal Goodyear Eagle F1s for grip (wet and dry) with the benefit of reduced road noise and longer life. The tyres have 14k kms on them with very little wear. Wheel nuts replaced with new shiny ones recently, lock nuts on all wheels.

Exterior

Paintwork in excellent condition, Version R spolier, facelift conversion with clear fog and indicator pods, clear side repeaters.

Interior

Full (real) Leather retrim in black / grey, FTO logo stitched into headrests, centre console, gear shift and instrument binncale sprayed steel silver as per exterior, CF gear shift knob, alu handbrake cover with leather shroud, KMC v.3 white dials with alu dial rings, alu needle cups and CF rear instrument surround, Momo steering Wheel flare replaced with fire extinguisher, alu pedals and footrest.

I've seen this car in the flesh and you're right, you'd be waiting a long time to find better. The car is a perfect example of what an FTO should be like...
... pity you're selling though, end of an era. Lets hope the next (lucky) owner will be as meticulous.

Can't believe you are only looking for 6750Euros for this FTO CJ. Its worth far more than that. If I had the money to spare (and the space to store) it would be put under wraps for a few years and brought out for weekend use in about 20 years time.

My favorite FTO ever - period - and in better condition than any FTO I have seen of any year.

I hope that this goes to someone on the forum - I wouldn't like to see this car leave the club.

Thanks for the comments lads, its with mixed emotions that I've decided to sell on, its not advertised anywhere else at present - I'd like to see the car going to an enthusiast who will continue to look after it.

@ MFFTO, I hear what you're saying about the price - its certainly worth a lot more to me personally (not to mention financially considering the work thats gone into her), I want to pitch it at a fair price and see it go to a good home. If I don't see this car standing out at a future meet, I'll be disappointed!

SOLD!

24 hours and the cars gone - maybe you where right MfFTO!

I'm delighted to say that the car will be going to an enthusiast on the forum, I'll let the person in question make themseleves known ;)

There was one caveat with the sale - the car won't be available until the 25th of Feb, this will enable me to attend the 5th anniversary meet with the car in tow, a last soujourn if you will.

Its with mixed emotions that I write this reply, but I guess you must move on some time.

Cheers. Delighted alright!

The 911 is being sold in the next while... 2nd baby on the way and we spent a lot of money on a family motor recently (Volvo XC90 Diesel)... and as I cycle to work I wanted to get back to something fun but that would not break the bank too... with no guilt about it sitting in the garage as a weekend motor! So, welcome to CJs FTO. I have always wanted to get back to FTO ownership, but there were few that would have tempted me as much as CJs.

Side note, a public thanks to Ciaran for his time and information during the sale... always the gentleman.

Fastest ever FTO sale beyond a doubt.

Congrats on the purchase Adrian - I'm delighted the FTO has stayed on here and has gone to someone that I'm certain will take great care of it.
You also got the bargain of the century as far as I'm concerned.

CJ - At least you'll still be able to poke away with the missus' incoming manual Red FTO - you were nearly out of things to do with the last one anyway!

Mid March all things going well....

You've very welcome Adrian, I'm chuffed its going to someone who will continue to look after it (not that it needs much in the way of looking after at this point in time ;))

See above.

Very little bogins, I'd give it a clean once or twice a year - hot soapy water, a sponge and a small brush does wonders.
