She was empty, filled her up with some water and anti freeze, and everything seamed ok, so took her for a drive to see what would happen? She didn't over-heat this time but she was empty when I got home?
The rad was empty, the water tank was empty, & no I didn't put the water into the window wipper bottle!

Quite possibly your water pump is gone.
Did you change the water pump when you/if you changed the timing belt last?

Don't drive the FTO again untill you get this sorted - you risk seriously damaging your engine.

Agee with MfFTO, get someone to stick it up on axel stands and fill up the cooling system - the leak should be easily spotted from underneath. Its also common for the coolant hoses to split, if so, this is an easy fix.

Well the belts were just changed before I bought the car in September?
Is it possible to change the water pump with out changing the belt's again?
Or is it a combo deal?

If it was me - I wouldn't trust someones else's word that they changed the timing belt. If the problem is the water pump then you are better off also changing the timing belt while you are at it. Neither part is particularly expensive - its the labour that costs.

I THINK you have to take the belts off to change the water pump, thats why they recommend you do the pump the same time as the belts, but if I'm wrong correct me.

Look at it this way - if it is the waterpump - atleast you'll be pretty sure you wont need to get belts and the pump replaced again in the near future.

But first - check the hoses.. They have been known to split.

One of the guys on here (I think it was "The Bull") did a temporary fix with Clingfilm and Cable ties - but even so I wouldn't go driving till the actual problem is solved, the issue could worsen as overheating can lead to a wealth of financial devastation..

Well my lovely boyfriend :smt058 is gone off today to price it up and see what can be done! He's collecting me at lunch time so I'll have more of an up-date then!
Must say tho totally gutted it was finally running propper, and I was doing it up bit by bit, question is now tho? Do I get my car fixed or get my little Chihuahua, he's costing me €1200.00 http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/phpBB2 ... ic_id=1046
We'll see today at lunch time what the car is costing me?

I know how it happened tho it came across my mind Saturday evening!!!
There is this lady (woman thing) in her 40's, well she works with my boyfriend and she has a scary weard crush on him so I'm told by all the other women who work with him ha... Kinda noticed at a christmas party a few years ago how she was giving me dirty looks? And then when Andrew introduced me to her she was overly nice? Then when he walked away back to giving me dirty looks? Asked a few of the other ladies was she ok? And they told me ha...
Anyway she went to Lourdes on a trip & brought me back a holy meddle for my car!!!! And the day I put it in? The car breaks? I recon she cursed it? Who's with me?
Funny thing is When I thought of it I gave it back to Andrew and said he can have it? And he through it in the glove box of his work truck & when he went to work Sunday, the truck BROKE DOWN!!!! :x
I rest my case!

This couldn't be something as simple as the thermostat could it? Maybe your coolant is just boiling off as the engine heats up? It happened to me...

if it is emptying that quickly it has to be a leak in either the hoses or the waterpump is played out.
If the waterpump is played out you normally hear it. It iwll sound unhealthy, like a few ballbearings being spun around in a metal dish. You should also see water leaking from the driver side under the car... If this is not the case, look at all the hoses and around the rad. Sometimes it can be a split or damage in the rad itself that is the leak.

It seems sort of pointless to sell the car after putting that much money into it since you won't come anywhere close to recouping your losses and you now have a car with almost everything replaced that is likely to cause a problem.

If you buy any other used car you'll be back to square one.

Well the first vendor is RiceRocket - you don't need ebay to buy from him.
And the second vendor is looking for double the money for a water pump that camskill is selling as per the link in my second post above. You will also have to pay postage on both items.

Just give Ricerocket or Camskill a call and they will sort you for the relevant parts at good value. You will be buying quality replacement parts from proven suppliers and at excellent value + just one shipping cost.

Thanks a million lad's for listing to me rant and rave and blow off some steam bit calmer now, ordered the parts last night when I finished work, I ordered them from Camskill like Shane said, hope I got the right ones now though there was loads to choose from!

Just really mad at the twit I bought it from he asured me all the belts were just done! Sure if that was the case the pump would have had to be changed it's self, he's was from Kerry, John was his name? He was giving me the number of the fto specialist in Kerry so he could confirm all the belts were done! But I foolishly took his word for it since he was going to so much bother to prove it to me. He left his door key on the car keys when he gave them to me, wish I hadn't posted it back to him now! :x ha...

Got quoted €250.00 yesterday for labour? What do you think of that? Reasonable?

Its possible the belts were done and they didn't do the waterpump... supposedly the belts last up to 100,000 km and the pump up to 130,000 km (or so I read somewhere) but it doesn't make sense not to do the belts without the waterpump & vice versa 'cos its the same work involved.

When I did my belts I replaced the waterpump, and the one that came off looked perfect but better safe than sorry so the new one is on there now.

Remembering doing it myself 250 sounds pretty reasonable, its a fairly time consuming job & you need to know what you're doing. So many bits have to come off to get at it, and you're working in a confined space with some of the pulleys/tensioners to get at them, and helps big time to have the right tools too of course!
