WANTED ECU with part no. MD343579

Postby power » Tue Mar 01, 2011 5:46 pm

As the title says, I have the car in with Paul Nolan at the moment and he's trying a crap load of parts
to get to the bottom of my troublesome fto! Thanks to Gerry, for lending a few other parts, I'm now stuck
for a new ECU, so if anybody has one for sale or one I could borrow PLEASE!!!
Mine is a 99 GX Auto, and it's the main ecu, not gearbox one I'm after
Thanks guys

The car is hesitating when driving, and the fault code reader is showing throttle position sensor.
so far paul has tried new maf meter, throttle body, t.p.s, and stepper motor.
Gerry gave me a lend of an ecu, but it wouldn't fit, paul said the one in my fto is silver with that part number.
I don't know myself which ones will fit, but i know my ecu is behind the centre console on the floor and not
in the passenger footwell if that helps!

I thought the tiptronic ecu was in the centre console on all auto models? Also I've never heard of an ecu not fitting,I've used a gpx ecu in a gr to eliminate ecu fault and it worked

I know you said he fitted a replacement TPS but did he test it first. I have had problems with fitting TPS before only to find agood working one at the third try. Simple to check
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=11071
I would try an ecu from a GR. Thought the Engine ECU was on the left side of the passanger footwell. ECU under canter console are AT and TCL.

That part number is defo A/T ecu. Easy way to know is the colour of the plug. Green for Engine ecu and blue for a/t ecu.

I agree it will probably work but the map on the GX ECU is different to the GR - just FYI.

I rang paul on this yesterday and he said he wouldn't get a chance to check it

I havn't driven my car since last may and I'm really itching to get it back now! :)

Hi paul,

The ecu i gave you is a engine ecu from a 97 gx manual.
From the part number you specified above, looks like you need the the auto box ecu as the guys have already said.
Sorry but i dont have any of these.

Ah, no i was asking paul was it the auto box he wanted and he reckoned he wrote down the serial off the
wrong ecu, so i'm hoping he just got them mixed up and the engine ecu i got from you is the right one after all

ok, i was talking to Paul today and he said the main black ecu behind the centre console is definately that
part number, which means it must be the auto box. He can't find any other ecu in the footwell as per this post
http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10040

He said he's gonna have another look for it this evening.
Anyone shed some light on where else it could be? It's the engine ecu I need to locate.

The engine ecu is in the passenger footwell on the left. Pull trim off and carpet back

As colm said the Engine ECU is in the pass footwell. Remove the plastic trim that hiolds the road flare. Look in and upwards and you will see the ecu. It has 4 larger green block connectors.

Has the fuel pressure been checked. Could be a dodgy fuel pump or pressure regulator.

Post is a liitle off topic here but if it is showing a TPS fault, get someone with a diagnostic unit to restet all codes and then see what if any codes come up.
If TPS comes up again then your prob is there. The TPS is simple to test on the car. There is even a procedure in the service manual.
This is you basc starting point. Hesitation could be due to numerous things. Some simple and some not so easy to find.

Guys, I seem to remember a scenario (discussed on the forum) where the main ECU wasn't located in the pass footwell but behind the dash. the p/n listed is definitely a tip box ECU.

Hi Paul,

The engine ecu i gave you was taken from the passenger side footwell of a gx, along the the inside wall of the footwell.
This can be seen easier if the black trim is removed at this location.
The gear box ecu is behing the centre console on 1994-1997 models, i presume it is in the same location on ur 99.

I have worked on and scrapped a lot of fto's and have yet to see the engine ecu anywhere other than the pass footwell, left side. Gerry are you saying your one was to the right of the passanger footwell on the GX. Normally TCL and AT unit are behind the centre console.
As I said above, clear the fault codes and see if any re-appear.
If you need an engine ECU, one from a GR will work fine.

Hi Rory,

No, as you say, the engine ecu i removed for power was from passenger footwell leftside(along the inside pillar on the chassis).
As you say that is the only place i have ever seen engine ecu.
I have no post 1997´s with auto box, so i can only go by the pre 1997´s that i have worked on or broke, but the ecu for tipbox was buried deep behind centre console as in below radio, abs unit etc.

hopefully paul can find it, he said it's definately not where it usually is, and he's gonna have a further look behind the glove box.
I'll keep you updated as soon as he rings me, and thanks for all the replies lads

Steelroe, I'll suggest to paul about the t.p.s again if the ecu doesn't work out, thanks

Was back on to Paul again today, and he said he pulled the car apart and couldn't find any other E.C.U apart from that one behind the centre console!
He said when he pulls the plug on it, the engine cuts out! So he thinks it could be a combined E.C.U?
Either way he said he might try change it, so anyone have one with that part number knocking about?

That is not a combined ECU it is the AT ecu. Ask him what colour are the connectors. Blue for AT green for Engine.
Engine will cut out due to safety switch on gearbox.
Send me you chassis no and I will be check caps for you, in relation to the different ECU part numbers.
