Hole in roof-lining

Postby TopCat » Mon Feb 18, 2008 10:24 am

Hello all,
My first question, and it’s a little unusual, but someone out there may have a suggestion?
When I got the car, it had one of those roof mounted DVD players in it. Some might like it, but to me, in an FTO they’re a little pointless. (Ans my sister has a few kids, and I think she might get a bit more (peace/) use out of it. )
So I’m looking to remove it. Fairly easy, just a few screws, but what I’m left with is a lovely hole in the roof lining, roughly an inch across, where the wiring goes. :x Any suggestions as to how this might be patched in a tidy way, or should I just try to cover it? Is there usually a light dome (not sure of the right name) in this location on FTO’s?
If you need any photos to help explain, let me know.

Thanks in advance,

TC

TC, the only option I see is to replace it, pm steelroe for a price on a second hand roof liner.

you could fit an interior light from a Lancer or something? taking the roof lining out is supposed to be a pig of a job

that said, wiring in the interior light without removing the headlining would also be difficult....

Yeah, I was wondering if removing the liner would be a big job, but I had a look at Seb's post about removing it to shave it, and its fairly well described, so I might tackle it (The clean would do no harm either). There are a load of wires from the unit anyway, so I think it'll have to come off to remove them. I think the light from a lancer might be the cheaper option of those two? I know a scrap yard back home direction (Mayo) where I could get one cheap I'd say.

just go for a light that sits flush over the headlining, like on older Lancers, as opposed to one that is recessed. also consider how the lamp will mount. anywhere to screw into?

(doesn't have to even be a mitsu part as long as it's the right colour!)
