Postby fatboyfat7 » Sun Mar 02, 2008 1:42 am

Only in the door. My GS 2nd gear was getting a bit sticky and then in the mcdonalds drive thru it went. all in the space of 3 mins. Its stuck in 2nd gear. the gear stick lost all feeling and just wobbled about all loose. it only moves forward and back. im absolutely gutted. And im flying to rome in the morning... Any idea whats wrong? is my gear box gone or something... hope this isnt gonna cost a fortune. its typical too cause i only sold my other car today. Murphys law...

sounds like a problem with the linkage, hopefully that's all it is.

Its a problem with the linkage alright. I need a new cable or something and they told me they have to order it from Japan, wait 2 weeks for it and its going to cost 300 euro not including VAT or fitting costs... Seems like a lot for a cable. Know anywhere i might be able to get it cheaper or even sooner than waiting 2 weeks?

The linkages on the FTO are solid IIRC. Which garage did you contact and have you ordered the parts. I'd ring mitsubishi with the chassis number and ask them. Likely to be a common part shared with other models....

Yeah i'll give that a go and see what happens. Its actually been my father dealing with it for me to be honest. I've been in Rome and only got back late last night. I presume he took it to his own mechanic. I'll try that anyway and hopefully I'll have some luck, thanks again

So i posted this comment about my gears yesterday, and thanks to FTO Ireland I've already found the part i need (that had to be flown in from Japan!?!?!) down in Kerry at a fraction of the cost. And instead of waiting 2 weeks I'll have it tomorrow. Fantastic, thanks for all the help... Again!
