Classic FTO makes an appearance at Los Angeles Auto Show

The Mitsubishi Galant FTO was produced between 1971 and 1974, when gas prices started going haywire, and it was something of a rocket in its day. This particular model, a '73, featured a 1.6-liter four-banger that Mitsubishi says produced 110 horsepower. Pretty impressive, given the six-cylinder in the '73 Datsun 240Z made 162. Mitsubishi brought back the FTO name in 1994 and retired it again six years later.

They also had the Colt F2000 racecar on show

That thing's crying out for a Mivec transplant. To be fair, it's not a stunning looking car, but there's something iresistable about it to me. I'd love one too, in the same way that I'd love a Mk1 Escort, Golf, or classic Celica.

Dodgy browny green was all the rage in the 70's, as was dodgy brown. Brown Datsun Cherrys and Opel Kadetts, I miss them I do...

Just thinking, this would be the perfect in-between car for me considering its full title was 'Mitsubishi Galant FTO'. Believe it was RWD also.

it was the early 70's, pretty much everything was RWD!
Has plenty of potential as a result!

Re: the brown thing, my dad had a new brown Datsun 120y. we thought we were unbelievably cool at the time. I guess in Clare in the 80's that WAS cool!

I think the colour in the pic above is pretty cool. Don't see them like that anymore. Would love to get my hands on one of the originals of the species

Thats the best pic I've seen of the old FTO, seen it a few places. Gives the carr a type of muscle car look, like a mustang shape or something. Beautiful machine, if I could I'd get one but I've never seen any for sale in any site anywhere!

110 bhp for a 1.6 petrol was great for the 70s. A modern Avensis 1.6 VVT-i is 109 bhp, and a Celica 1.6 ST from the 70's would've been 85 bhp.
