Clutch Change

What's involved? Is it a big job, any special tools required? (Alignment etc). What's a reasonable amount of man hours to pay for an experienced mechanic to complete this job?

I did it on my car, albeit in a VERY unprofessional manner, with nothing other than a few sockets, a torque wrench and a lot of brute force in about a day. Shouldn't take a professional more than about 4/5 hours.

Thanks Wildhound.
Anybody here pay a mechanic to change a clutch recently, would appreciate an indication of the time charged.

When I was up with Paul Nolan last week he was replacing a clutch on a white GR. I'd say theres at least 4 hours labour involved.

I'd be inclined to agree. thing was that I contacted my usual garage for a quote to carry out a major service, and they said between 4 and 8 hours for the clutch. Now the mechanic is a friend of a friend and I trust the guy (was not talking to him directly though). Now I realise they are just covering themselves and probably have not changed a clutch on an FTO before, and therefore not familiar with the access etc. I need to call in, in person anyway as he wants to asses the job of fitting the crank pully. But I would have thought the clutch was a 4 to 5 hour job and was looking for some reassurance.

I actually didn't replace the clutch, I had to take it back off after the engine replacement because we hadn't torqued the flywheel properly during the engine swap. Stupid I know.

There's a good few miles left on the one I have but I'll be replacing it when the rebuilt engine goes in.
