What primer for alloys???

Postby gary d » Wed Jan 13, 2010 8:15 pm

I'm finally goin to refurb my alloys but was wondering what type of primer is best for alloys i.e acidetch or just common old fashioned primer? How many coats of primer is required? I was thinking two coats primer then flat it back with fine wet/dry followed by three coats of paint flatting where required between coats and finally two coats of lacquer.

Etching primer is supposed to be the best Gary, I was told by a lad who does a lot of spraying. Its eats into the alloy and gives a base for the final coats, whereas the standard primer might just run off as the metal is so smooth.

As long as you key the surface, plain old primer will do the job just fine.
