New toy...

Postby kevinod » Sat Jun 04, 2005 4:24 pm

Finally got around to installing my new toy, a rain sensor! It adjusts the wiper speeds to however heavy or light its raining, no more need to be constantly adjusting the intermittent speed myself! (laziness is a desparate affliction  )

I've a sensor just below the mirror:

and an on-off switch mounted just behind the wiper stalk:

Turn on the switch and the sensor takes over, leave it off and the old wipers still work exactly as they did beforehand.

Installation wasn't too bad, just one wire is in a really awkward place to get at, and there's the nervy moments when cutting the 2 wires I had to cut, but apart from having my ground wire in the wrong spot first it was all handy enough.

As far as I know, an FTO first?

That's pretty cool kev... probably not a mod I'd personally bother with but it's still pretty cool - I'd imagine you're right and it's a first for an FTO

Thanks!

Its a bit of a 'luxury' mod alright, one of those things I had in my last car and got used to. Plus it didn't cost a lot and I got to know the FTO electrics a bit better.

Where did you get it and did it take much to install?
Cheers

Hey Conor,

I got it here: http://www.raintracker.com. Wasnt too bad to install, the hardest bit was working out which wires to hook in where, but its not too bad after that.

There's just one wire thats pretty awkward to get at, but there's 12 wires from the rain tracker, including the 2 from the on/off switch. One thing is that the wires from the on/off switch are pretty short, I had to extend them, luckily we had some old wire lying around!

I have all the wiring diagrams if you want a look.
