Mivec controller

Postby PajEvo » Mon Oct 09, 2006 12:25 am

Hey folks,

I'm looking for a mivec controller for a Paj Evo and am looking for recommenadtions as to what to go for. I want one that goes into the ecu without having a million other wires to be put in line directly.

Any recommendations ? I have been looking at the Apexi VAFC which seems to be the best I've found so far.

The 3.5 V6 Mivec has a lot of similarity to the FTO Mivec and is quite similar to modify. The Apexi VAFC would make more sense than a standard mivec controller as you can adjust the fueling - esp considering you have to run on 95 RON in this country.

Doubt there are many on this forum running an Apexi VAFC though - its mostly just mivec controllers and they don't do a whole lot on their own.

I'll take a look on the UK FTO forum - there is likely to be more guys on their forum that have used the Apexi VAFC -talk later.

Alrighty then - done a bit of research - The Apexi V-AFC will alter the mivec point and air/fuel ratio however there is a body of opinion that claims the Apexi S-AFC is more suitable for mivec engines.

Greddy emanage would be possibly even better as you should be able to adjust ignition timing.

With any of the above you will only get gains if you get it on a rolling road and have it set-up properly - its not exactly plug and play. Also best when you have a few mods already in place - to get the best gains you really should have mods like manifold/downpipe/decat and SS exhaust/wide band lambda sensor/fuel pressure regulator/ upgraded fuel pump / iridium plugs etc - I'd imagine the Paj Evo will respond much better to these mods than the FTO GPX due to its increased capacity and less stressed engine.

I don't think the SAFC does the mivec control function though, the fuel/air etc is nice to have but I want to drop my mivec boost back into scoobie territory for 3rd gear

Ger, I think you'll see a drop in high end power if you knowck the MIVEC point down any great degree - it would be useful to play around with it on a dyno though.

To be honest for 3rd and 4th I find myself sitting waiting on the mivec to kick in watching the rev counter urging the rev counter to move faster and then when the mivec does kick in you get this screaming angry growl that scares the bejesus out of the grannies while you pass them so I don't use the high end power to its full extent, whereas I'd much prefer to get that power sooner and not have the need for being on full power to get that kick.

I see it similiar to the afterburner scenario, you should be able to call upon your power when you need it not just when you are only allowed to get to it. With the controller you get the flexibility to pick and choose, worst case it'll be a nice toy to play with.

To be honest what I think I need is a turbo for low end power and then the mivec for high end.
