FUEL CAT

Postby MadMax » Fri Feb 11, 2005 12:03 am

Has any one ever used a Fuel Cat on there FTO? You can put it in the fuel tank or in your fuel line (better) and it is supposed to effectively increase the octane of the petrol, i.e. improve performance etc. I bought a 3 LT version as advised and will be getting it fitted some time over the next few weeks. The guys in the Scooby club are using them? The Red Bullet is using one in his Scooby and he says that he is getting better mileage, saving 10-15 euro a tank, he doesn’t notice a power increase but who can tell a couple of bhp when you have over 220 bhp.

I was also thinking of getting the spitfire multi-spark if they fit? if anyone has tried these please let me know if they make a difference.

Does anyone know if you can get a K& N panel filter for a GR, if so what’s the part number.

It makes some interesting claims alright, but I don't understand myself how a lot of them can be the case. 400,000 miles for example! Thats further than almost all cars go in their lifetime.

Personally, I'd be very slow to use it until I knew exactly what it did and what effect it had on the engine. Mainly down to a mistrust of a lot of these types of products, e.g. that magnet thingy that was around before, advertised on telly, that you put on the fuel line.

But, if you're putting it in let us know how it goes! Prob a good idea to have a few easily measurable figures to compare it against, mpg, idling revs, 0-100 (km/h  ) times, that kinda thing, done before and after, so it doesnt' just seem better, it either is or isn't.

I did a bit of looking into this Fuelcat business a while back, in short, theres no scientific reports to prove that it works and there are no proper dyno figures out for before and after figures. The is product is mainly used on older cars, it allows you to use unleaded fuel in an engine requiring leaded petrol.

Fuel Cat and Strut Braces

Postby MadMax » Tue Aug 09, 2005 12:25 am

I got the fuel cat fitted and have been using it for some time. I do a lot of short journeys so I have noticed only a small improvement, an extra 20 KM per tank. On long journeys I’m getting an extra 50 KM per tank. I didn’t notice a power increase. I think it was worth it as it will pay for it’s self in the long tern and petrol isn’t getting any cheaper!

I fitted a front upper strut brace and a rear lower strut brace (not to reduce boot space) and the handling of the car has greatly improved, the ride is a bit stiffer but well worth it. Both braces cost 97 sterling including delivery on ebay.

If you are going to put any money into your car the strut braces are a must.
