Postby paul2508 » Wed Jan 13, 2010 7:32 pm

i have two rca cables off my 2 channel amp but want to amplify front and rear speakers
could i use two of these
Image
so i can get two feeds off one cable equalling four inputs for the two preouts off the front and two preouts for the rear speakers.
or would that be two much. have a feeling would cause problems, too much power etc
...Me fail english?..Thats unpossible.....

You've lost me! First things first - is your amp 2 channel or a 4 channel?

The benefit of amplifying the rear fill is negligible, if you've decent 6x9's then run them direct from the stereo. I assume you have a good set of of components up front and you've specced them in line with your amp output (RMS)?

how do you mean specced them in line with my amp? was looking on few sites today, just gonna get one of these splitters and run the two rca's into the sub preout. few people said wat you said cj, if youy have a decent set of 6x9's leave them be.

The RMS output of each channel shouldn't excced the RMA rating of your mid/high components i.e. amp is rated @ 50W RMS, speakers should be 70W RMS etc. Is your amp 2 or 4 channel? if you've a 4 channel amp, by all means power the 6x9's. Most installs include a 4 channel amp whereby the front components are driven by the amp, the 6x9's are driven by the stereo and the remains in 2 channels are bridged to create a crossover for a sub.

The install in my previous FTO included a 4 channel amp for the fronts and rears and a 2 channel amp for the sub. In hindsight, driving the 6x9's with an external amp was overkill.

Here's a handy online guide for beginners and indeed it's helpful for trying to fit your own in car audio stuff.

Enjoy :) http://home.scarlet.be/~ping4093/rega2/guide.html

I'm thinking you shouldn't need to amplify your speakers unless you've seriously upgraded them.

6.5 inch fronts and 6*9's back should have plenty power from the headunit?

How's it sounding since you hooked up the sub?

Its very much dependent on:

1. The output of the built-in stereo amp
2. How much of an audiophile you are!

I just assumed that any stereo that has 4 pre-outs must be pretty decent.
