Water Temp Sensor

Hi, just wondering if anybody can tell me where the actual sensor is located for the temp gauge?
It’s going back to a problem I’ve had for a while; the needle isn’t reacting at all hardly inside. The only time it works now, is when I accelerate hard, hence I think it’s a loose wire. I checked the connections behind the dash the last time I was messing behind there, and no joy, so I want to check the wires in the engine bay. Where to start looking I ask?

Have a look at the second workshop manual... page 291. See the engine lift point and you should be able to find it handy enough.

I was under the car last night and spotted the temp sensor, its screwed into the section under the alu filler cap section (name escapes me), looks like you need to remove the coolant hoses to access it - get the torch out and have a look.
