brake discs and mintex pads

Postby paul2508 » Sun Apr 04, 2010 2:09 pm

can anyone recommend this set
http://cgi.ebay.ie/MITSUBISHI-FTO-MIVEC-GROOVED-BRAKE-DISCS-MINTEX-PADS-GP_W0QQitemZ360153055648QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item53dacb81a0
i always see these sets on ebay and the price looks reasonable considering what you get. thinking of purchasing the set.

P.S another stupid question, what is the fto brake setup ,its pads on the rear too yeah?? and how easy is it to fit them yourself ,i have done plaenty of cars with just front pads, just never rear.

cheers peeps. :)

FTOs have discs all round, older cars generally have drums on the back

Got the same pads for the FTO from my local motor factors for 30 quid. never fitted them. luckily they also fit the Shogun :D

The piston in the rear calipers need to be wound back, you can use a vice grips to do this. Have a look here:

Paul ,

just comparing camskill prices :

drilled AND GROOVED rear http://camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m3b0s536p368 82 pounds
drilled AND GROOVED front http://camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m3b0s536p45 69 pounds

i'd say that's roughly 160 -170 eur

the pads are start from 30 eur/ set(front/ rear) - 200eur , you can chose any type. and can get them even at the local motorfactors.

bare in mind that those disks would make a lot more pad dust .

I recently changed all 4 pads after reading that how to, handy enough. Just the handbrake cable can be a bit of a pain on the rear calipers!

Also the pads i got had clips on the back of half the pads and the other half were bare. The ones with the little clips go to the back of the calipers and the bare to front of the caliper if that makes sense. I found this out the hard way

You have a GX with standard brakes yeah?

In that case it's the non MIVEC single pot (smaller) ones

Mintex don't list the FTO on their site, but the ones I got for the GPX were MDB1539. you'll be given 2 choices, choose the other one.
