I was only talking to a lad the other day about this. He's worked on them a good bit over his 35 years in motor sport and motor works. There are only 2 things you can do to the 2.0 mivec engine that will be simple and improve performance and they are manifolds and porting. He also added that the only other thing you could do is add lightness (Stolen from the creator of Lotus).
Currently in my collection:
'98 Toyota Starlet...
'79 Mini Clubman 1380cc ~100BHP (I hope)
'79 BMW 728

The most BHP you're going to get out of it without forced induction is ~200BHP if you're lucky.

Agreed. And most places that have dyno'd them higher usually caculate the BHP from wheel to flywheel. This formula is not accurate and seems a little contrived so as people might return to the place that gives "good" BHP readings.

The same guy also said to me that on FTOs the simplest and best thing to do is replace the suspension with a really good set. Gives the impression of a faster car if it handles properly. It also means you don't need to upgrade other parts like brakes or internals if you're planning on upping the power...Add lightness!

Its been well documented on here that the key to a quick NA FTO is to loose weight.
Its not particularly hard to loose 100kgs from an FTO bringing down the weight of a GPX to circa 1100kgs.

As per above better off spending your money on good brakes and suspension than chasing NA power.

If you were to chase NA power then a, CAI intake, a free flowing decat exhaust inc manifold and downpipe along with an upgraded fuel pump, bigger injectors, a fuel pressure regulator and a good aftermarket ECU like a Haltech,Motec etc would be as far as I'd go although these mods would make a good base for the addition of a supercharger.
