just curious...?

Postby karlf » Mon Oct 02, 2006 1:20 am

my mate has a twin cam mr2, and likes to show off that his is more powerful than my 1.8 gs auto. he does this with our other mates too. We'd often be stopped at lights, he'l ring and say see if you can stay with me. Knowing full well he's gonna win, as this is a regular occurance. Would it involve much work and what sort of money we talking to up my bhp so that I could take his mr2?( and then take great satisfaction of reminding him everytime we're out driving that mines faster than his)
Think it would be a nice surprise for him one day, and not one he'd like either. Incidently i got a quote on a 2.0 twin cam mr2 and it was cheaper than the fto. Last year, I got a quote of €1200ish on one and couldn't get a quote for my fto. where's the sense in that????

There's a turboed gpx ad mentioned in the for sale section methinks, wouldnt know if that would be the route to go :smt102 Spent over £10000 as in TEN THOUSAND ENGLISH POUNDS (€14,760.46) on the turbo conversion alone

Not much point talking about modding a GS. Cheaper to trade your GS FTO in for a manual GPX/GPvR and you'll show him a clean set of heels.

Yeah - get yourself a nice gpx instead. NOI the GS is still a lovely car, it just doesn't have the oomph of the GPX. GRs are good too, but if you're gonna change you might as well go for the full-banana.

Lots of work.

As per other suggestions, sell the GS and buy a GPX if you're after more power - as a former GS owner, I can vouch for the fact that theres a world of difference between the 4 cylinder and the V6 in terms of performance.

not sure

Postby karlf » Mon Oct 02, 2006 3:08 pm

Thought there might be an easy way to squeeze a few more bhp outa her. A twin cam non turbo mr2 is 145bhp according to a site I was on. As i said just curious as to what I could do. Changing the car is a bit drastic, and he'd probably notice that, it was more the surprise element I was after. Has anyone tried those power chips on e-bay that say they increase your bhp by between 15 and 25. Are they hard to install??

Guess I'l be staying well away from them so. Although the profit margin on those resistors is appealing. Think I might give selling them a shout myself, always looking for good ways to make a few quid. Ha!ha!

Had a look at this but I dont like the bonnet. Never liked that carbon fibre look, just think its pants. It only looks alright on a black car coz it matches(sort of). On any other colour just doesn't look right if you ask me

Not sure mate! To be honest dont really know that much about the subject. I know how to drive a car thats about. Do a bit with the electrics as I'm an electrician kinda know what I'm doing there. I thought I could just throw in an induction kit, maybe a new exhaust or such and that'd do the trick. Guess its a bit harder than that
