questions questions questions

:?: I have another 2 questions to hassle ye with.

1. I've noticed the lighting in the FTO is very poor. The dims are useless and the full lights don't seem to be much better. Is it just a case of changing out for higher wattage bulbs? Any recomendations!!

2. I got 2 origional keys with the car. Both seem to have a button on them I presume for the central locking, however they don't seem to work. I've changed the batteries in both but to no effect. I'm getting a new alarm fitted today so the central locking shouldn't be a problem. Still it would be nice to fix origional problem.[/i][/b]

Get a set of high wattage HB9006's (HB4) from www.powerbulbs.co.uk, FTOs dipped beamed are notoriously bad.

Get the alarm guy to take a look and hook the central locking up to the new unit, shouldn't be a big job.

the diiped lights on my car are terrible too.
i have just purchaseda unit called a xemax light booster which is supposed to give up to 250% more light from existing bulb - it wires up to 12v supply and existing bulb feed wires. it does not overload any of factory circuits which i was afraid a higher wattage bulb might
will let you know how well it works

I'd be intesested to hear how you get on with that Gary, any upgrade which claims to be able to increase light intensity by 2.5 times from the same piece of tungsten sounds dubious to me. Is this the product by the way?

Sounds well worth a try for £20 anyway, let us know how you get on!

My lights are shocking too, heads not too bad but dims... I think the right dims is out of focus 'cos it is working but there's hardly any light on the right side. Although there is either muck or damage on the outside of the plastic that could be the cause.

The damage you speak about is probably just the lacquer on the lens that has basically melted or worn over time - When I had the car in for some touchups -I got the bodyshop to sand mine down with a very fine (2000 grade I think) sandpaper and then T-Cut the lens - and it was perfect. You should have no problem doing it yourself.

Sounds like it alright!

how does one 't-cut' a lens though, what is that?

T-cut is just an abrasive polish you can pick up in most motor factors, it acts by removing a top layer of laquer. Don't go too hard with the sandpaper or you'll be down to bare plastic in no time!

Brasso has also been mentioned in the past as another way of cleaning up the lenses, personally I use Autoglym on them every time I wax the car.
