Wall cavity insulation

Hi guys,

we're looking at putting in cavity insulation into the walls in my apartment's building. Thinking of the pellets/beads with the solution. I don't know the details myself, but looking into it.

Anyone know anything about it, or can recommend someone in the Cork area?

Apparently the building standards for attic insulation is now up to 12 inches (of attic insulation!).

Kev.

Depends on the type of insulation used Kev for the thickness, if its a dense material then less is needed. Like if it was Rockwool, cause thats compressed insulation, then you wouldnt need 12 inches at all.
Filling the cavities in the outer walls is def a good plan, it'll be big in the future, I myself have never used it and dont know any contacts, but we were supposed to be looking into for a government body just before the recession hit. One thing to be aware of when filling the cavity is that the tops of the cavity are blocked at the gables, opes, and eaves, or else you'll be pumping insulation and itll just be flowing out over the walls. I'm not sure if they carry out a heat test first to assess the areas that may be open so they close them off, I know they do with roofs.
Check up the usual suspects anyway, Moy, Kingspan, and Rockwool, they might have some more info on it for you.

Just starting to look into the insulation issue myself at work. One of the guys here does BER certs, and after running some trial models, one of the first things he's gonna do in his own house is throw another 6 inches of insulation in the attic, makes a huge difference. Relatively cheap and you can just put it up yourself.

But, you are aware of this new grant scheme I presume? The roof insulation is covered, along with a number of wall insulation types.
More infor here. AFAIK, the SEI are currently putting together a group of approved contractors.

If you just want to go down the route of doing it yourself, let me know and I'll ask the guys at work if they know anyone in the cork area that does it.
