Screw what anyone thinks, you are your own person, and that goes for anything in life, cars aside. If I was to listen to everything people said, I wouldn't be the person I am today. (a girl racer that is )

I can't understand anyone who chooses their ideals on a small detail over career progression in today's climate.

Mustang, first off its a different job, in a different town. And i appreciate your comments and personally dont take any offense in them. When the car was threatened it was in a small town, with little or no 'nice' cars so to speak. I think there was a dodgey looking Calibra and 1 other Civic around regularly. The FTO stood out. And the lads I had hassle with threathed the car because they are scumbags and knew it was mine. Nothing ever happened it anyway in the end down there.
Where I am now is a completely different kettle of fish. Im now one of the managers and have had staff and my assistant general manager make comments. Nothing nasty, just comments. It does bother me as Im just new and wanting to make a good, professional appearance. I feel I have been unintensionally pressured to do this. And I have never abused the car around the hotel, or even the town. As for your comments about it being myself that draws this attitude, possible but unlikely. And by no means is this the first time its been said. At my grandmothers birthday I had the car parked outside and her OAP buddies quizzed me; 'Are you one of those young fellas that fly around the place at night keeping everybody awake?' They hadnt even heard the exhaust, the car was simply parked outside! At the end of day Im 23 years old. I know your older so you may not have experienced the generalisation some of us younger drivers have. Not only am I young, but the car is white and has an exhaust fitted. If I didnt know better, I would make the presumption I was a boy racer too. This is why I can kind of understand it. If a new staff member arrived, young male, white Integra, exhaust etc. I would probably assume the same. Hypocritical I know. This is why Im not attacking them for it. I think given their lack of knowledge about FTO's and my personal driving style, its a common enough presumption to make. Now you could argue its up to me to change their persception, but as Ive said, I've just started and I want to make a good impression. Especially in this recessionary time as you've pointed out. Dragonheart (Martin Jer) has also had similar experiences. And again, his car is white. There is an undeniable link in the average persons mind that
White Car + Exhaust = Boy Racer
And I regrettably think your right about the need to priortise, which is why I feel I will have to sell the car.

@ Gary, Will probably cross that bridge when I come to it but possibly an unmodified BMW E30 3 series coupe. Always loved them. Or I might get a cheap run around and start saving more for a few years. Nice time to be able to buy a house.

Can you not speak to your boss and ask him for his opinion??? I wouldn't care what the staff think of you, they are not the ones you need to impress, it's your bosses, surely you can just sit down, have a chat and ask them out straight? If the car is an issue they will let you know, if it's not, then you're getting rid for no reason! I completely understand you're trying to make an impression, but having the chat with your boss would or at least should not cause any undue bad impressions with them, it should in fact only boost your impression in that you are aware of a possible situation and not only that but you are also prepared to do something about it!

I know you like to play Devil's advocate Mustang but sometimes your opinions would be better kept to yourself.
You're very quick to jump on other forum members... constructive critisim can be a good thing, but you seem to like to get the boot in :?

Bernard, if someone posts up a topic it is up for discussion - the whole purpose of the forum is the expression of opinions. I am not putting the boot in to anyone and I don't see where you are coming from with that statement. In this case I am merely putting forward an alternative view. If someone post up a topic such as this and all they are looking for, is for everyone to agree with them and then have a group hug afterwards then they should go elsewhere. This is a discussion forum for topics to be discussed –opposing and/or different views are part and parcel of same. As it is we only had Fatboys version events, best to keep an open mind.
In any case

Fatboy is not offended, and rightly so, as I did not say anything offence. Best not to take offence on other peoples behalf.

fatboyfat7 wrote:This is really getting out of hand. I have NEVER been told I have to get rid of the car. What has happened is that a couple of comments have been made, both by staff and management, implying im a boy racer. And its been in a slagging way more than anything else really.

Which is exactly as I had suggested –this has been blown out of all proportion.

fatboyfat7 wrote: I think the kicker is the fact its white...

I agree, the thought had occurred to me also, but didn’t want to say it (you see I do have some restraint!). A white sports car will stick out like a sore thumb, and with a white jap sports car, It’s very difficult to get away from the ricer image –and all that goes with it.
I agree with Dave's comments, you really need to find out if they are half joking or half joking fully serious. I.e is it just playful slagging or do they think you look unprofessional and are bringing down the tone of the establishment.
