Interior trim advice needed

Postby mark » Thu Nov 01, 2007 9:39 pm

My gear stick/ radio surround has seen better days and I'm looking to repair it. It's now broken in two places and superglue isn't working. I want to keep it black (not carbon look) and do some sort of invisible mend on it, anyone any ideas for good bonding stuff or spray paint etc :?:

Wouldn't you be better off just changing it?
I'm sure you could pick one up easily enough...

Maybe try your hand at the fibre glass (?) stuff like Colm did a week or 2 back? I guess the easiest would be to replace it if you can get hold of one of course.

I was thinking the same myself, I recently cracked my own and was thinking about the fibreglass route.

Yeah maybe, I'm sure Colm will stick a post up here soon  I think Halford's do glass fibre kits. I'd be a total novice and want a professional finish to the car though...

Probably, was eyeing up a fiber kit in Halfords the other day, only 17 euros, of course skill is required and that's priceless!

Use an epoxy glue to stick it all back together, then I'd recommend wrapping it in plastic film rather than spraying. preparing the surface is a long messy job if you're painting,
Interior spray is ok but finish not as good as factory, then you have to worry about paint peeling etc.
Halfords do FoliaTec coloured plastic film, carbon fibre trim(which I got), and brushed aluminium film, which looks brilliant.
Just sand down the surface with a fine sand paper, especially around where you glued. scratches/minor imperfections won't show through the film.
I broke my surround when fitting the extra dials where the ashtray was, i used chemical metal to reinforce the weak points on the surround.
