Gearbox needs replaced

Postby boru » Fri Feb 20, 2009 4:26 pm

Hi, had gearbox problems for a couple of weeks, was hoping it only needed new sensors, however the other day things got worse in that she would not move at all in 1st and poorly in 2nd. Took it to an automatic specialist and he said it would cost £1400-1600 to fix and that I would be better getting a replacement. Does anybody know of anywhere that imports good low mileage engines/gearboxes. Thanks

Teamally, I've no way of knowing if my sensors are OK. The initial problems with the gearbox pointed towards a sensor problem. Anyway I need to get a replacement before I start dismantling. I'll get back to you as soon as I get sorted out.

Try Steelroe (in Kerry) or Ricerocket in the UK.

I used one of those search sites yesterday for a gearbox and got varies quotes from England from £600 to £350 sterling including delivery. The one at 350 is low mileage (if you can trust that) and he said it was fully reconditioned. I've also sourced one at a breakers near me for £300. Had a look at it today, don't know what model the car is but its a 2 litre 24v engine but not a mivec like mine. The gearbox code is the same as mine (F4A42) but I thought the mivec had a differant box. Not sure though. Don't know the mileage on this one as the young boy couldn't find the key.

i seen on 1 of the other sites a GR gearbox will fit a GPX mivec perfect

think its just a slight difference in the gear ratios

That applies to Manual boxes only.. afaik the tip boxes are completely identical.

How do I know if I have a 25 or 27 spline driveshaft. How come no other breakers asked me this question when telling me they had a gearbox to suit me????

Its a fair distance away from you dont know if thats a problem for you. But there is no harm in asking Rory for a price. Ya might save a few quid as he's very reasonable with prices from what I've seen.

you have to count them, simple as! the driveshafts can be different depending on the box or vice versa.

Camskill for the sensors.....
