Woobwoobwoob!

Postby optical illusion » Fri Sep 11, 2009 11:22 pm

So, first track day in Kirkistown Friday week...

Sickly nervous. Any tips on preferably no death and in particular no death of the car? Have changed brake disks as warped them a bit in Phoenix Park  Learned quite a bit from that even though not long was spent on the track. Tyre squeal, I like this - tough with LSD though - tips? :)

LSD is helpful though.

Tips I've already received are:

No more than 10 mins on track (it's 7 hours!!)
Pump brake - PUMP BRAKE!!!
No handbrake in cooling down period.

Pink helmet - check. Pink gloves - check!

Actually a really good day out, lots of food, training by an former f1 lotus driver and OPH. Mondello is the pits in comparison...

Maybe a bit of practice doing the 1/4 mile this weekend in sleek show in Limerick would help?

I'd say Martin's tuition will be in high demand, so make sure you get out in the trackskills car, if its there, to get a run round the track. You get quite a good view of the track that way, and some tips too.

I hope to get a passenger run if you're free at some point ;)

Sgt_Major, you're on octane? What's your user name, I had no idea!

What will you be driving?? PAX lap no bother, once I get the hang of it mind, I want no laughing! Martin will be in hot contention I'd say, not a hope. Maybe I should wear a short skirt

I'm on Octane and RMS too.

Same username on every forum. I'll be bringing my camera down, not tracking this time.

I'll be arriving in my white FTO as usual :D

So guys, day before I'm due to leave, the car that never gave me an ounce of real trouble has gone and shat itself. Just like that. Not a budge out of her starting, has to be push started.

Apparently my landlord knows an AE that lives down the road from me. Suspected starter all along and I was right. Took it off and looked inside and brushes and terminals are screwed, not to mention the oil filter pi$$ing out of it and on to it!!

Somebody please say a prayer it gets fixed in time for tomorrow, otherwise I'm going to cry myself into a depression. I've never driven the lotus and I don't want to start on a bloody track.

Like, of all bloody times WHY NOW!!!!!! :smt076

Looks like those Goodyear Eagles had a tough time - amazing what the heat from track driving can do to a set of high performance road tyres. Bet you wished you brought along a set of track day tyres.

How did the FTO manage against the Elise?

Yes, slicks or 888's would be nice but would also be tough on the car and brakes I would imagine.

To be honest Shane, elise's and fto's are incomparable. Elise's are stripped out track cars essentially and do their job quite well. If I had money to fork out on a track car it would be an exige all the way. They had a bit of a job keeping up on the straights alright but in corners I was eating their dust.

Ya Lou, Derek uploaded them a bit backwards alright! Apparently it's 'Lotii' :) It actually wasn't an Octane track day, it was an LCI member (Lotus Club Ireland) track day. Hence the huge amount of Lotii there. I got some nice tuition from a Lotus race driver I know, and that helped immensely with racing lines and so forth.

Didn't bother timing myself I was having such a good time and it was only my first day. Next time round though

Did a little write up on how it performed in general discussions.

Well as you know my starter motor kinda shat itself recently. The brushes and terminals were replaced but I need to replace the armature. Cheapest new one from guy who did it is €180! Anyone know where I could get one? Tbh, there is no point going second hand as these are known to go in fto's. I'll drop a line to Mike is camskill too.

Oh and here is a pic of Derek and I racing down the straights!
