Front brake discs

My right front wheel disc is a bit warped, which means lots of vibration in the braking at ~60+kmh. The brakes still work but this isn't good. So long story short, I'm looking at getting new brake discs, anyone recommend any in particular?

The ones I have are standard GPX (put GPX brake calipers on my GR), are the drilled ones much better?

Whereabouts would be good to get a pair? Camskill have 'camskill' discs, £129 for the performance ones as against £59 for the std ones, but they only recommend std pads for those (edit: the standard discs), I have EBC Redstuff pads which I guess wouldn't be considered standard pads?

I must book my car in for the NCT again :x now that my 3 month disc has expired, hopefully I won't have much of an imbalance with the slightly warped disc, and hopefully I won't get failed on it either. Anyone get nailed with a warped disc? Might be as well to wait 10 days or so after getting a new set on there?

It depends. Match EBC disks to EBC pads if possible, Black Diamonds are OK as well.

Depends on your driving style I suppose, drilled disks perform better under serious braking as they cool down quicker, if you're going down that route, get drilled and grooved disks, the grooves sweep the pad material away from the disk surface and prevent glazing.

I might be mistaken, but I think that the Camskill drilled disks are just standards that have been drilled as opposed to heat treated etc, these will warp quite easily. Std pads are recommended on std disks as harder compounds can warp them easily.

Definetely not ;)

When I got my car, there was a new set of standard disks on there, they had been swapped in for a set of 'warped' BD x-drilled and grooved, I threw the BDs back on with a set of Pagid pads, and within the week, 'warping' had dissapeared, my point is that there are a lot of myths out there on this topic.

From reading up on this (im no expert) the "warping" is often a build up of material from the pad on the disk, Try driving to a high speed (safe and legal of course) and braking hard a few times and it might take some of the crap off,

This happened to me about a year ago, I hadnt driven the car over 80kmph in a about two months (:r I know I know) and when I braked down from 120kph I got bad judder but once I had done it a fewtimes it just wore off. I never got any judder under 80kph.

Cool, thanks guys, I'll give the hard braking a try and see how that works. We need a motorway in Cork!! :twisted:

I would say you disk is definetely warped and if you dont want to go down the road of new ones, I would get them skimmed on a lathe. I have done this with every car I have ever driven. Works perfectly. Good engineering workshop would do in in about 15minutes. Usually costs me about 20 a pair
And if I remember right the disks I gave you have are almost brand new.

Hadn't come across anyone doing that before but makes sense... and spending 10/20 quid to get it skimmed is a bit more attractive than buying a new disc too!

Ya, those discs seemed more or less brand new when you gave them to me alright. I'll try the hard braking plan (did a little earlier, but didn't get up to 100kms... dam these twisty roads with slow cars on them!) and see if that gets me anywhere but if not the skimming might be getting a go!
